there is a grain of truth to the “immigrants stealing good jobs” lie, quite a few buisnesses were preferentially hiring foreign workers because they could pay them less including iirc TSMC and other big tech companies
Sadly true. And yet, they go after the immigrants and not the business owners for some strange reason…
And if you’re a complete sociopath, the ‘less brown people will fix things’ makes a bit of sense too. Less people means less competition for jobs, so more good jobs and higher wages since there would be fewer employees to go around. (This is also why they also want women out of the workforce.)
That’s basically all the racists want, is everything in the country for themselves and their little groups. It’s the dark side of tribalism.
Right, which just makes them easy to stuff under the label of ‘other tribe’. And ‘other tribe’ must be run out of town at any cost. Even if they aren’t in your town to begin with.
That’s less “immigrants stealing good jobs” though and more “employers violating labor laws and exploiting vulnerable people” like I was saying. Sure, the effect is the same, but instead of rounding up brown people, maybe we could try enforcing the laws and arresting business owners for knowingly breaking the laws. That would also send a message that it’s not worth the risk to try to hire illegally.

you are more likely to know a buisness owner than an immigrant if you live in a rural town far from the border (or know that you know one anyway)
