Did the whole world lose their shit? I was in primary school at the time which might be part of it but I didn’t really notice that much in the UK as far as day to day life goes.
Two years later the UK joined the US in invading Iraq. NATO Article 5 was invoked for the first time. Afghanistan was invaded with again, help from the UK. The war on* terror began in earnest, leading to millions of deaths and ten times the displacement of people. All over the world bombings, kidnappings, torture sites were opened and used for decades, some ran by the UK.
