Wietrzyk’s major sponsor, Puma, is distancing itself from the athlete by quietly removing “Joanna Wietrzyk x PUMA” clothing items from its website. But a spokesperson for Puma says there’s “no change” to their partnership with Wietrzyk, telling CBC News in a statement Thursday that some landing pages were “unintentionally taken offline.”
On social media, people have flooded the brand’s comments with plays on “Puma,” such as “Pooma,” “Poopma” and “Poo Ma Pants.”
I feel sorry for these people when I read stories like these. They’re pushing themselves so hard physically and emotionally, their head’s in a weird place, their judgement is off and they end up humiliating themselves on the world stage. Virtually the entire world. The worst kind of fame. This person’s life is over. They will forever be the point of ridicule by everyone.
Can you imagine waking up every day, your career is totally over, having to face that. Knowing that the whole world has seen what you did in the heat of the moment. You have let down every one who supported you, your family, and failed your life’s goal in the most embarrassing way possible. To hide yourself away in miserable shame is the best you could possibly hope for.
And it just doesn’t go away, now you have to get on camera to apologize and explain it away. You have to make statements. You have to watch clips of it over and over. Everywhere you go people are talking about you in hushed mocking wispers. Everything you do will have an asterisk near it. One fucked up moment overshadows everything else you will ever do from here on out. For the rest of your life.
That’s a hard burden to carry.
There’s always a price to be paid for obsessions.
So much worse than it sounds. This was an indoor race and it wasn’t just running. They used “communal equipment such as ropes, sandbags, rowing machines and medicine balls”
She finished first, so there was poop smeared on everything for the racers behind her. She ruined everyone’s race and potentially got people sick.
If it had been intentional, it would have been a brilliant strategy - take an early lead and shit on everything to slow everyone else down.
Amazing.
She may have been #1 but #2 was right on her heels.
And in her socks. Also her back and arms somehow.
Nice of her to apologize, but this is really on the officials and the organization for not pulling her out.
High-level athletes are always going to want to compete. They’ll play through injury and discomfort to win. If it were up to them, they would and do put themselves in danger of further injury just to get out there and play. That’s why coaches and staff are the ones who make decisions to bench players for injury and it’s not left up to the players themselves.
I agree, it’s not on her to withdraw herself from the competition. I don’t think she owes an apology. If she won, she won. If it was unsafe for the other competitors the judges should have pulled her out.
It’s wild that she just kept on competing. Call me crazy but once I shit my pants in front of thousands of people I immediately get the fuck out if there.
She got the runs, not the stops.
Just don’t get that one dude who’ll stare you in the eye and try to outshit you
many long distance cyclists piss and shit in their knicks.
And that’s why you’re not a champion! Every winner shits their pants!
Good enough for POTUS is good enough for my household.
And here I was thinking Hyrox was the original Oreo. I heard about this but had no idea ‘Hyrox’ was the name of the sport. 🤣
i had no idea what it was, so i looked on the wiki. a branded and licensed (i.e. for profit) exercise thing. kinda like crossfit, which is more about the workout regimen and less about the competitions. this one started with the competitions but all those competitors and wannabes still have to workout and train so there is several categories of licensed facilities for that. the routine of a run followed by a workout exercise and then repeat several more times is very similar to some of my varsity track workouts back in the 1980s
You sure it’s not a small, stout, thickset, herbivorous mammal in the family Procaviidae instead?
Puma dropped her as a sponsor. It’s the only reason she backed off and forfeited.
“I love my sponsor so much that I even Puma pants!”
Okay in a 14 comment thread this is the second to make me chuckle. Saved.
POO-MA!
Wish I could take credit for that one.
Too bad they weren’t known for pants, the Puma Pants Company would have loved to sponsor her.
Hyrox as a sport won’t live this down for a while, and I doubt she ever will. She’ll be the lady that shat herself doing Hyrox for the rest of her life.
