I have a stupid conspiracy theory.
I believe they were trying to groom him to be the next Trump, and they wanted to duplicate the (also probably fake) assassination attempt and accidentally merc’d him.
So now they’re just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.
If I’m right that means that once the next big election cycle goes through we shouldn’t hear much more about him.
I like to imagine: What if he was actually assassinated by time travelers? Guy probably caused some serious damage in 2041 and had to be dealt with.
