Oh no, where will I get my daily dose of transphobic circlejerking now?!? My pointless hatred needs reinforcement lest I become normal and accepting again.

You can definitely find that kind of stuff on Lemmy or some other federated platform. The real benefit of those platforms over reddit is that it’s not controlled or gatekept by any one group, not that the content itself is “better” here, versus on reddit. In fact, the decentralized nature of the fediverse means its next to impossible to prevent transphobia, as compared to reddit, which, if it wanted, could crack down on it much more effectively.

You can find it on Lemmy but it’s downvoted to the bottom where it belongs. As you said, Reddit can crack down on bigotry more effectively but it just doesn’t. If you can stop bigotry but choose not to then you’ve made the choice to support it.

Reddit is the “nazi bar” now.

Its downvoted in your bubble, but I’m confident there are instances out there that celebrate it.

I know the distinction seems very fine, but I think it’s important that people internalize that content is a wash between the two, at best.

I wonder, all the content on reddit was built by users. Does reddit own that content? Would there be a way of scraping and reposing all that content somewhere else? Its such a trove of information, its a pity we can use it anymore.
