Is there even enough of an international market for coal right now for there to be an appreciable number of buyers for the coal? Coal mines shut down in the first place because people weren’t using coal. I know a few places have brought some coal back into play due to Strait-of-Hormuz-related issues, but is it enough to fuel demand, especially from countries who have ample reason to be Not Happy with the US right now and may have other available sources of coal?
Think it’s mostly undeveloped countries and Germany that use it for power generation
You mean underdeveloped countries like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and the US? All of them produce much more power using coal then Germany…
The big one is China and then with a massive gap India.
No idea, but the US actively exports a fair bit of coal
The US mined 410Mt of coal last year, which is obviously not all exported. There are a few countries, which buy coal in meaningful amounts, that such a terminal could make sense.
However the largest potential importer is China and that is falling.
It’s only a matter of time until people get upset enough from extreme weather…
They’ll just keep blaming it on the queers.
yeah I meant something else with my original comment…
Sure, but I know what’s gonna actually happen.
I think we actually have to wait for old people to die.
My dad saw a presentation once, which was enough to convince him that global warming isn’t real. Or rather that the earth warms and cools naturally (true) so humans have nothing to do with it (not true).
If anyone ever asks:
It’s not the absolute global temperature that’s the problem, it’s the rate of change.
Here’s the last 800 thousand years. That massive spike at the end is the problem. It’s had much more CO2/heat in the past, but it’s the rate of change that’s the problem. Here’s the last 70 million years, and it has been higher a long time ago but earth naturally changes pretty slowly at a few different cyclical periods, or over even longer periods of time.
If it increased naturally up to 430 ppm over time (like hundreds of thousands or millions of years), then life would have time to adapt. But it has shot up in less than 150 years and life just can’t evolve or adapt that quickly.
edit: oh I didn’t realize I’m in the Climate community, so people here probably know the above. This is meant for more general communities who may have heard about Fossil Capital’s propaganda but don’t actually know themselves what’s true.
I’m not a member of this community, but it did show up on my “home feed”. While I knew the gist of your comment, it’s good to have a refresher, plus anyone that doesn’t know would be well served by reading it. Thank you for posting it :)
The market for coal is dying, so the oligarch parasites are giving money to the high price whore to try and rake in the dough while they can.
Drumpft will do anything for money.
At least it’ll be super duper clean coal. Right?
