The first spike is the Titanic sinking, and the second little blip is ocean gate.
Ocean gate? Never heard it referred like that. Funny how gate is just a word for scandal by now. It all started with the Watergate gate.
Ironically the company is just called ocean gate. It’s purely a coincidence.
The company was literally named OceanGate Inc. So yeah, it very neatly fell into the “call every scandal [thing]-gate” media habit. The actual sub was named Titan.
Weird fact: Unknown Worlds Entertainment licensed the Cyclops name for the submarine in Subnautica from OceanGate.
Theorizing about and then venting about Ocean Gate is one of my formative Fediverse memories. God what an ass Stockton Rush was.
