Mitchell Hashimoto is moving Ghostty off GitHub after 18 years. A look at the “convenience trap” and why FOSS is shifting away from centralised hosting.

With Mitchell Hashimoto leaving Github it got me wondering, does anyone use it anymore?

    No, I have my own Forgejo container I run at home for my stuff.

    We use GitLab for work and that is like saying we dont want to use Microslop, let’s use google instead.

    Every job I’ve had has used either GitHub Enterprise or Gitlab self hosted.

    I am considering self hosting both Forgejo and Tangled, and keeping them in sync. Seems a 4GB raspberry pi should be just fine with a good size SD card. Maybe I will document the process when I’m done.
