Ouagadougou, November 25, 2025 (AIB) – “The war is in your hands. Come to your senses and let Burkina Faso regain its former peace,” declared Ousmane Dicko, also known as Abdoulaye Kontaane (28), a former GSIM (Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims) member, to the terrorist leaders who have been waging war against their own country for a decade. Saved by the humanity and professionalism of the armed forces, this man with a very dark past urged his former comrades to believe in the sincerity of his message and to end the suffering of innocent people.
Ousmane Dicko, alias Abdoulaye Kontaane, former cadre of the terrorist group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), better known as the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM), has come to his senses thanks to the Combatant Forces.
Captured on August 15, 2025 following a battle in Goulmu which cost the lives of 52 of his men, half of his force, Ousmane Dicko, wounded, was spared thanks to the magnanimity of the soldiers and received appropriate care.
The fighting forces also treated his mind by bringing in Islamic scholars to explain to him that killing, raping, destroying, stealing or driving people from their villages was not jihad, but gratuitous harm done to one’s neighbor.
Three months later, physically and psychologically recovered, Ousmane Dicko calls on the terrorists, especially their leaders, to return to the right path in order to end this war which has gone on for far too long.
“To all terrorist leaders, to all those in the bush who know they are leaders: the war is in your hands, because you are the ones who command the men and it is because of you that it continues. I beg you to come to your senses and allow the country to regain its former peace. Help us to end this war, to bring peace back to our country, because it has destroyed too much and has lasted too long,” Ousmane Dicko declared.
He urged young people not to follow the deceitful speeches and enticing offers of recruiters, because life in the bush is nothing but sin and suffering.
“I now have my eyes open and I hope that we can get back on the right track to get our country out of this pointless war and rebuild it together,” said Ousmane Dicko, hoping that his testimony would serve as an example.
The man who had begged the fighting forces to spare him was full of praise for them.
“I am very moved, because I didn’t think that I, Abdoulaye Kontaane, a terrorist leader, if I fell into the hands of the security forces, they would automatically execute me. But here we are, despite the fact that they know who I am, they didn’t kill me and, what’s more, they treated me well. Al Hamdoulaye! The security forces also showed me, from A to Z, that everything I was doing was wrong,” he concluded.
