We call on Minister Joly, Minister Solomon, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (“ISED”) to do the following:

  1. Extend the consultation deadline to February 2, 2026;
  2. Reconstitute the Task Force into a more equitably representative one that is equipped to confront the ongoing threats of AI to people and communities; and
  3. Rewrite the survey into a more legitimate and unbiased consultation instrument.

    My take from your redneck neighbor:

    Equate AI policy to “monopoly busting” and regulating Big Tech. Huggingface models are alright. Altman is bad.

    Otherwise you will get the worst of everything: sycophantic, censored, manipulative, easily abused AI that doesn’t actually work as a tool at all.

    Some heavy hitters in the list of signatories: Amnesty International, CCPA, Ana Brandusescu, Ron Deibert, Mél Hogan, Paris Marx, Robert Gehl (these are just a few of the names I recognise of people whose work I admire).
