If your host is offended about what country you came from then you probably don’t want to be staying there anyways.

I mean there are ignorant people everywhere in the world. It’s impossible to avoid them completely. That said I’m American and have only rarely received harassment due to my nationality. But I haven’t been abroad yet this year so I can’t speak to how the atmosphere has change since Trump 2.

Better solution is just to explain to people that we don’t support what’s going on and we’re subject to our government against our will just like they are.

I’m an American who lives in Europe now, and it’s pretty rare that people don’t understand that I condemn what the US is doing now. A few people who have no idea who have some brain dead hot takes, but for the most part it’s met with understanding

You could stop pretending to be helpless and just one little old person for starters. Plan, collaborate with like minded people who aren’t pushovers for fascists.

Where’s all that “live free or die” rhetoric now? “Leader of the free world.” " Arsenal of democracy". “End of history”. We had to hear the nauseating rhetoric, now is the time to put up or shut up.

I’m willing to bet it’s more than you though.

My country isn’t in the middle of a fascist takeover in part because we do our civic duty.

You’re exactly the kind essentializing ignoramus that causes people to wear Canadian flags abroad.

You’re the ones stealing my flag because you’re too embarrased by who and what you really are. Stop arguing with me, stop going on vacation and stop making excuses. Put your money where your mouth is and go and fix your shit.

I don’t wear any flags because I don’t support authoritarian governments (including the Canadian government). In fact, if you paid attention, you might realize the comment you replied to was me offering an alternative solution for those who have this concern…

This is your brain on nationalism, folks. I hope you can find your way to recovery.

So what I’m getting from the article is it actually does work if you’re an introvert with basic geographical and scientific knowledge

I’d throw on a state flag before the country flag, but it’s hard to do right because it’s the only 2-sided state flag.

It used to be a rule that Americans wear Canadian flags, and Canadians wore MEC gear. But MEC sucks now. :(
