Why is this type of comment so popular on Lemmy? We are supposed to hate absolutely anything here for some reason.

I don’t hate everything. I hate the fact that GTA V has been milked for 12 years. I like other stuff. I like Apex Legends. Smash brothers.

The multi-player maybe. But they’ve consistently delivered excellent single-player experiences with their flagship titles. GTA 3, VC, SA, IV, and V were all amazing. RDR1 was spectacular, and RDR2 may be the most impressive game I’ve ever played.

At this point, I trust Tockstar to deliver a good single-player game. I don’t really expect much in the way of the quality DLC we got with GTAIV and RDR, but I think the base game will easily be enough for me to justify a purchase.

I’m still gonna wait and see, of course. They’re not getting a pre-order out of me.

I’d agree with everything about the previous games. However, I think they made 10 billion dollars off of GTA online and wouldn’t be surprised if they focus more on that and leave the single player to the wayside.

GTA is a crime story video game. “Dishonest gambling” doesn’t mean “gambling I don’t like”. A science-based dragon MMO Kickstarter is a grift. GTA 6 is a video game.

Are you unaware that there’s a component of GTA 6 besides GTA online? Even in the online mode, they’re milking gamers for weak content using regular gambling. A grift would be like a carnival game that appears winnable but actually never is. For your gambling money, you do get “stuff” in GTA 6, even if you or I would consider it a poor value. I don’t know why a shitty online mode would make me want to play a good crime story single player mode less, but the mere existence of the single player mode easily makes it more than “just” that.

I just think that if you’re going to call something a grift, it should actually be one, because words have meaning. We can call it all sorts of other things. “Predatory” is a good one. I myself called it “shitty”. That’s not arguing in favor of a giant corporation. You can’t just pick your favorite negative descriptor when it doesn’t apply.

6 is never going to live up to the hype and will be riddled with micro transactions and GaaS shoved up its ass.

Stop paying attention to what the big corporations are pumping out. Go play something made my people that give a shit about the game and not the “potential revenue” it might create.

III, VC, SA, IV and even V are some of the best (edit: best-selling) games of all time. No need for new ones

Really aren’t. GTA has had the most dated mission structure since part 3.

Their Gangs and crimes stories are also weak.

SA was the only one that had something to say.

Glad you’re getting upvoted for this. Every time I mention how outdated RDR2 felt at launch, I get downvoted. But it’s true. For a game about an outlaw, you sure have to follow a lot of rules to play the game as the developers intended.

Yeah for a “dynamic open world” it sure consists of a bunch of linear missions and rigged structure.

Thats a classic video and definitely one of the first I’ve seen outside of Zero Punctuation that has been honest about the GTA games.

Yeah, that is crazy to me. I understand them wanting to make other games in between and that making those games takes a few years each. Rationally, I’m on board with the decision-making and the math that leads to this.
But that the result is a generation who didn’t have an Elder Scrolls part released in their childhood, that still feels like far too grand of a concept.

It’s a fantastic documentary; as an LA native, I recommend playing through the story to better understand our diverse culture of shallow rich folks, inner city gents, and meth-addled drug countrymen.

In fact, pirate it to truly honor my culture. Lol

Keep in mind that GTA V released in the PS3 - which is now considered a retro console.

I refuse to entertain the idea of PS3 being retro until at least next year, when it turns 20. Now you might say “okay then, GTA V also came out on Xbox 360, which turns 20 in about 2 months” to which I say… get off my lawn!

Though it was a completely different game than what we’ve come to know as GTA V after the PC release, in terms of graphics and content. And even then I remember grabbing snacks to watch the loading screen…

I liked GTA V, but after finishing it I drove around for a few hours and the never touched it again. I’m not really sure why.

I still go back to Vice City and San Andreas, somehow these worlds are just more fun. But like I said, I’m not sure why…

The graphics in 5 are great, the sound is great, but something is missing…

I tried to play through it recently. Game was OK, but fuck their stupid launcher. I want nothing to do with GTAO, so why do I have to load into its menu every single time I go to play the game and suffer through a bunch of ads to play a fucking single player game I paid for? I uninstalled about ten hours in. I might pirate it. It’s probably a better experience.

Coming up on 14 years for Skyrim.

They’ve both been propped up by pay-to-win bullshit online games that have diluted the formula. I remember when GTA V was new (ish) and while the controls took some getting used to, and some of the minigames were bullshit (Rockstar games have wonky controls), the game was fun as hell. Zero interest in the online stuff. It never appealed to me. I did try Elder Scrolls Online, and also Fallout 76. This online shit makes them money, it’s a surprise they’re even bothering with a GTA VI. The next GTA Online is really what they should be focused on (though I’ll always root for the single player games). After the last couple Fallouts and Starfield, I don’t even have any hope for Elder Scrolls VI. GTA VI at least looks like it might actually be good. But screw paying $100 for it.

Seems about right. Feels like I haven’t played GTA for a decade.

Every now and then internet reminds me it’s a thing, though.
