If Carney fucks us, I’m going to be rightly fucking pissed.

If this is a meeting for discovery, OK. If this is a meeting to engage them more, fuck off.

This closed door meeting better have some public relay once it’s over a good solid cabinet member can leak the details.

This does not sit well with me.

If this is a meeting for discovery, OK.

      Ostensibly, that’s why:

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Roberts is speaking to cabinet about trade issues because he knows the Trump administration’s playbook.

Roberts’s book Dawn’s Early Light: Taking Back Washington to Save America includes a foreword written by U.S. Vice-President JD Vance

The PMO added it would be beneficial for cabinet to hear Roberts’s perspective and understand the White House’s priorities as the government prepares for the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) review next year.

Geezus. Why do you immediately think the worst? Maybe Carney wants to put this BS to bed. Is it so hard to believe he’s not in cahoots?

I don’t like that it’s closed doors, but I question the framing of this article.

Like clearly Canada needs to keep negotiations with the USA open and Carney is not in control of who Trump authorizes to speak for the USA.

They need time. Canada IS setting up trade with other nations. It’s not going to happen overnight…

Our exports dropped 19% in Q2 this year. Diversifying 1/5th of our trade will take long enough that the responsible thing to do is salvage what trade we can from the USA in the interim.

There’s a world of difference between buyCanadian and wefuckingneedourexportsguys.

“Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”. Carney has a long and distinguished career in finance and politics. He is in complete control with whom he meets. Carney is buying time and setting up alternate trade outside of USSA. This takes time.

He’s in complete control of who he meets, but the way the article headline is framing it is irresponsible IMO.

As you said, Carney is setting up alternative trade partners. I’d assume part of his diversification strategy is to identify what aspects of trade specifically we need to divert away from the US due to Trump.

Can you elaborate on the “authorize” portion? This is all that’s in the article regarding why the person is speaking at the event.

Roberts is speaking to Carney’s cabinet during a session dubbed “establishing a new economic and security relationship with the U.S.” They will also hear from Kevin Rudd, Australia’s ambassador to the U.S., during the session.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Roberts is speaking to cabinet about trade issues because he knows the Trump administration’s playbook.

He knows that playbook because he was in the room when it was written.

I hope this meeting is not what it looks like on the surface.

There is no part of the heritage foundation agenda that I want to have any influence in Canada.

It already does have influence in Canada, PP and Alberta are the biggest threats because of this.

If taking to this jagoff makes it easier to deal with The Trump administration, that’s a good thing. Forewarned is forearmed

I’m fortunately that’s the rose coloured glasses version of this meeting though.

      I hate this timeline

And what exactly is this guy’s motivation to share that information with us? Just out of the kindness of his heart? The guy quoted in this very article as saying the US was in the midst of a,

“second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Yeah, that’s a stand up guy who I definitely trust to tell me the truth. Come the fuck on.

The 4 principles of their ideology contradict each other and it threatens blood if the left doesn’t allow it. Jesus Christ.

So according to them, being logical make me “the left” and they’re going to stab me. Oh boy.

I’ll join you in that chant when I’m convinced it’s not a gross oversimplification that ignores developments not covered in the media.

As much as I’d rather socialist domestic policies, I acknowledge that in realpolitik terms we don’t exist in a void or have the luxury of ignoring the influence of neo-fascists like the USA.

there’s two things that EVERYONE should be able to recognize about Trump, but really just boils down to one simple fact : he always says the opposite of what is true.

                  • when he says “nobody knows more about this than me,” what he REALLY means is “i am completely clueless about this subject”

                  • when he says “never heard of it,” he is VERY involved.
