Just want to make sure I have that right. He spoke up so now they are making shit up to try and defame him? Do I have this bullshit right?
He also spoke up about palestine so that could have something to do with it
He’s a relative of the Allende family. He spent his childhood as a refugee after the US installed Pinochet and his family had to flee Chile. Idk why his anti imperialism would shock anyone.
US “installed”? Surely not, only bad countries do such things. The US of A is the only beacon of light and freedom and democracy and justice and Good Values™ in this world.
Because a lot of people take abuse and turn right around and dish it out to somebody below them. Case in point: Israel vs. Palestine. Much love to Pedro for not perpetuating that cycle, though.
All my homies vote for Pedro.
The fact that people take JK Rowling seriously saddens me.
Yep
Your post has me realizing how much I don’t give a shit about.
I honestly don’t even know who Pedro Pascal is.
damn, how much arch are you using?
I don’t even get the reference because I stopped in for context but there is none because I still don’t know who that is.
An actor single handedly keeping a good 40% of the LGBTQ community off the ledge right now. Also he played The Mandalorian, and is a very vocal supporter of queer / trans rights (his sister is trans)
That helps immensely. I still don’t get how Arch is involved.
i was just joking around. prev comment said he didnt care. some one replied welcome to lemmy( your just like us). lemmy is filled with linux users. you said you dont know who we are even talking about. and i made the joke that you are that deep into linux you barely come up for pop culture.
I didn’t recognize the name either until @Warl0k3@lemmy.world said who he is, after which my brain cells told me that i knew that before. e: but i’m notoriously bad at remembering actors names and faces - i often do not care enough to remember them, even in stuff i like; if i remember single actors, i stored that information primarily per cultural osmosis.
Some people also don’t like it when someone is “overexposed” and in everything. They liked it when he was on the rise, in Game of Thrones and then he broke out with Mandalorian. People were happy because he played the role keeping the helmet on 99% of the season…especially flying in the face of the Halo series a while later.
But because he was now “popular” and appearing in more films and shows, this is bad now.
For some anyway. Not me. I love him still.
I personally don’t get it. He’s successful. It wasn’t handed to him like some nepo baby. He worked hard and did great jobs to achieve where he’s at.
I honestly don’t get it. You can have someone like Taylor Swift who releases an album every couple weeks and if you speak ill of her then you’ve essentially become Satan. So it’s ok for one person to be constantly in the publics face but it’s not ok for another person?
if you speak ill of her then you’ve essentially become Satan
I didn’t think this was true until I encountered this from my sister-in-law. I just mentioned that I didn’t care for her music and suddenly I became a misogynist because there’s no other possible reason for not liking the output of the greatest singer and songwriter in human history. I countered with a very long list of women artists whose music I did like and she said those women all make masculine music. I was like “Kate Bush and Tori Amos make masculine music?”
I’m certain many of the people that think PP is overexposed feel the same about TS
Crabs in a bucket.
I thought the breakout was Narcos.
It’s truly beyond me how people have the energy to keep with celebrities
Since it’s beyond you, I’ll take the time to explain. Different people have different values. Some people think it’s interesting to pay attention to the intersection of culture and politics… so they take their energy that isn’t devoted to the necessary tasks of staying alive and devote some of it to following this.
Some people take that energy and participate in online communities. Instead of devoting that energy to that intersection, they post and comment. Its their energy and their value system.
Some people aren’t interested in either. I hope this simple answer has bought it into your range of understanding.

Sincerity comes off as sarcasm to the insincere.
Saying my response was created by chatgpt is dismissive and not genuine critique.

Well damn. When I wrote this " I hope this simple answer has bought it into your range of understanding." I didn’t have any intention of it being condescending. When I read it, I read as up boeat with a little happiness.
I ran your prompt through ChatGPT this is what it came up with:
“Oh, I get it — you don’t like celebrities. That’s fair. I mean, some people don’t like sports, others don’t like cooking, and there are even people who think reading is a waste of time. It’s all just hobbies, right? Yours just happens to be not caring about certain humans other people find interesting. Perfectly valid. Almost a hobby in itself, really.”
I see how that is similar. I just would have never used the last sentence.

FWIW, i didn’t read that as anything but genuine.
I’ll take you at face value if you say you were being sincere in your original posting, but it certainly didn’t come across that way at all to me (and I assume most of the downvoters). Just another interesting example of how tone doesn’t translate in online forums, I guess.
Relevant Kids in the Hall sketch:
Do you think OP was sincere when they said it was beyond them?
I also don’t see how the video you link to is relevant.
OP wasn’t claiming to be sincere. You are.
Since you don’t see how the link is relevant, I’ll take the time to explain. The character played by David Foley in the Kids in the Hall sketch is not being intentionally sarcastic, but his affect is so sarcastic-seeming that the character played by Kevin MacDonald in the sketch is offended and leaves, despite Foley’s good intentions and desire for human contact.
In the same way, your post, by your own declaration, is not meant to be sarcastic or condescending, but was certainly taken that way by me and probably by a large number of the folks who downvoted it. I hope this simple answer has bought it into your range of understanding.
I’m not claiming op was being sincere. I read him as sincere. It appears others are not. So he is insincere that this is beyond him. Rather that everything I wrote is understandable to him and he chose to be insincere. I imagine it’s for some reason I don’t understand. Do you understand?
Thank you for taking time to explain this to me. It is now in my range of understanding. I do not know why people have downvoted me. I think they disagree with me. I do not know why people upvoted me. I think they agreed with me.
I’m not sure if you take me at face value any more. I think you think I’m being condescending and sarcastic. Are you being insincere?
I am not being insincere.
TERFs will just make shit up. It’s absolutely unhinged. Rowling also has them denying that Nazis killed trans people - they’ve started to claim that the Nazis issued “transvestite passes” (which the Weimar Republic did - famously not the Nazi government) based on a book of photographs someone published of Nazi soldiers doing drag.
The Nazis tortured and murdered trans people. Some did drag because they thought it was funny, heck the US military did official drag shows during WW2. People do drag because it’s funny, that doesn’t mean they accept trans people. It’s unhinged how willing people are to lie and spread the lies of others in order to justify their hate.
Yep doing drag shows because it’s funny is the opposite of accepting trans people. It mocks them, and women too.
It’s a performance art, and like any other form of performance it can be used to be shitty, but it’s not inherently mocking of women or trans people. Some of the stuff I’ve seen on RuPaul has made me cringe, but I’ve also seen queens that dress up like church marms and do a Betty Bowers/old school Colbert skewering of the Christian right.
I agree, I wasn’t referring to actual drag performances, but to men dressing up as women only because they think it’s funny!
Phantasms are one hell of a drug.
It’s exhausting, because once you debunk them on something, they just move on to something else. It’s easy to just make up shit, it takes work to prove it wrong. There’s no guarantee anyone sees the debunking either.
Dude is chill and she is not. That is enough for me.
This like when they cancelled James Gun and got him fired from Marvel? I haven’t seen anything about Pedro Pascal.
They’ve been accusing him of being too grabby with his women co-stars (no evidence of this, and the co-stars in question say he isn’t) and whining that he’s just in too many movies/shows these days (no more than other prolific actors). Smells like astroturfing and surprise, it is.
More like astroTERFing amirite?
Federal money should be given to the poor.
Concurrently with the release of the unredacted Epstein files.
… And with pertinent Trump entries in bold of course.
Please don’t capitalize that fucker’s name. He doesn’t deserve it.
Bold isn’t capitalized. It’s all one case, very thick. Lower case bold is fine. Just make sure we see it
What’s with people and celebrities? Go live your life.

Idk I only know him for him listing russian literature in his top6 books lol
And? Russian lit gave us an entire genre of games. Plus a bunch of philosophy and probably other stuff but c’mon bro stalker.
Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. The comment states that they don’t really know Pedro Pascal and can be taken as just funny, absurd and quite neutral.
Cause it’s never stalker (and honesty, who reads stalker?), it’s boring tolstoyevsky stuff, which he listed at top. I just find it funny that I know the guy because of his shit taste in books, I imagine he’s ok otherwise.
and honesty, who reads stalker?
Lemme clarify. Roadside Picnic, the book, inspired S.T.A.L.K.E.R the game and its sequel. Some of those devs went on to make Metro 2033. These games in turn inspired more games like Escape from Tarkov, Stalcraft (bleh), Into the Radius (peak), Convrgence, and more recently Gray Zone Warfare. The popularity of Tarkov basically solidified extraction shooters as a genre.
Fun fact, in GZW you can find copies of Roadside Picnic on tables and shelves in various locations.
Onto pedro, I looked up the list and there’s 2 russian authors on there, so not really enough to dismiss it as a list of “tolstoyevsky stuff.”
what does that have to do with anything?
