I’ve just started a server, and all I need to get you verified is full name, phone number, DOB, bank acct number, and 3 passwords to secure your account. Here it is if you’re interested: mastodon.totallylegit.con

    • Alternatively, on my privacy-focused server, we only ask for full name and social security number. No passwords on any of our accounts either, just click your name from the drop-down list of our registered users! Easy and privacy focused! join us at privacy-mastodon.net

Step 1: Type :verified: into your display name. 🙃

I think this is related to the server checking an external actor for validation. The closest thing to twitter “Verification” mastodon has is the green fields on a profile that only shows if the mentioned site has a back link our something similar.

Yeah, I was joking. Some people only want to be Twitter-verified to look important, and they can get that same pseudo-important look on Mastodon by just putting the blue-checkmark-emoji into their display name. Anyone can do that, so yeah, it certainly doesn’t verify anything…
