Someone deleted a popular answer to a post and now I don’t have a way to make it look right. What should I do in such cases?

FWIW you can’t reliably unpost anything anyways. It would be trivial to run an instance of lemmy that just federated and logged everything. Deletion should always be treated as a “Please delete this” on the internet.

Of course there are some benefits if everyone does actually cooperate, however it does raise the question of should we pretend this is the case if it isn’t forced. It may lead users to believe that they can actually reliably delete something.

      Yes! True!

But the story is much bigger than that I guess.

If I write highly controversial stuff that shouldn’t be said/posted, it get’s deleted, but everyone can still see the content because of the previous version. I think in extreme cases this is a problem.

It’s just that on reddit I always thought it’s annoying when someone deletes a post or his account because I could just go to a mirror site and look up the comment.
