I say mistaken because here’s what I was thinking: mealworms have been known to metabolize polystyrene for a long time: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.est.5b02661 I say correct because there is also active work on tailoring BSF larvae to do the same thing: https://microbiomejournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40168-023-01649-0
