I have family members who are our landlords, and others that own second houses. Is this a “no ethical consumption under capitalism” moment or what do I need to do about this?

I would say it is unethical under any means, but depending on how they run it it can be more ethical or less ethical. eg. how much rent they charge and how lenient they are with people who can’t pay, what sort of community they have and how do they help the community.

It is difficult to have a community owned building under capitalism, try to get them to be more ethical about it and consider making it community owned, though once people own something for a certian amout of time they are less likely to want to share sadly; that is why people get more right wing/ conservative as they get older.

Essentially they are profiting off of exploiting people which isn’t ethically good.
