I have a friend who has had a mastodon instance since it was gnu social, and there are two reasons I stopped using it.

First, the UI sucks. He installed 3 or 4 different skins and they were all barely usable. I don’t want or need something flashy, xfce is my favorite windows manager, but it needs to at least work and not be confusing.

Second, the people suck. It went from being okay to by the time I left I don’t think I was seeing any exchanges that didn’t have antisemitism or racism.

I’m learning Rust. Working my way through the tutorial in “the book” and it has been interesting so far.

Disney ruined the Hitman industry. There used to be hundreds of small, Mom and Pop assassin bureau’s that maybe didn’t always succeed in killing the target but you could tell they cared about ending people’s lives. They put heart and soul into the assassination business. But now Disney has gobbled all of them up and it’s just one cookie cutter hit after another. No creativity, no imagination. They pretty much just walk up to their targets in broad daylight then use the Disney lawyers on the back end if anyone tries to stop them. I sure miss the good old days.

That was a joke. I don’t think Disney is running an assassin business, they’re not Boeing.

When I was a kid I came up with a name for the group that snuck in and set up those signs, “Polite People for the Cessation of Byway Maintenance”. They always put their protest signs up a respectful distance away and always just the one in each direction, thus the polite people part.

So, instead of saying, “Catholic seminaries were already too full of [bundle of sticks]” instead he meant to say that “Catholic seminaries were already too full of homosexuals”. I’m not sure fixing the one word helps his message or is actually even the problem.

You might not understand how they are going to control it, but they do. Facebook doesn’t do anything without a plan on how to either get a ton of money from something or a plan on how to destroy that thing. So the fact that they are trying to integrate into the fediverse means they have a plan. They are smarter and more evil than anyone here in the area of making money and destroying competitors, and they will 100% do one of those things, probably both.

Reddit got caught unprepared by the protests, they are probably working on a shadow mod feature and forgot to hide it from the log. Deleting an already removed post is a fairly inconspicuous way to demo the feature.

Not only is “female” a dirogitory way to refer to a human woman, but it has been widely know since at least the late '80s. Why do you think the Ferengi in Star Trek:TNG use the term? People at the time weren’t confused, they knew immediately that the Ferengi were sexist.
