No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it weird that I cringe whenever someone calls my name and I avoid using peoples names when talking to them?
21·18 days agoI wonder how much of this has to do with the fact that most of us don’t chose the name we have? I’ve met people whom simply do not “look like” their name. It feels strange to refer to them by something that feels…other. I imagine this is why some cultures allow people to move through names as their lives go on. If we were given the space to emerge as a name, one embodied and truly ours, I think this phenomenon would be lessened.
My two favorites from the last few months have been The Way of the Strangers by Graeme Wood and The Immortality Key by Brian Muraresku.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some healthy and filling meals you enjoy regularly?
17·2 years agoOven roasted vegetables are a phenomenal way to add variety to your plate, and are very filling. They can all be roasted at 400⁰ F, so you can prep them simultaneously. Cauliflower, broccoli, beets, carrots and squash are all great options. If you select thin-skinned squash you don’t even have to peel it.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We're lucky that our bodies require sleep, otherwise our cultures would have us working 16-20 hour days.
10·3 years agoIf not for labor unions we would still be working 12+ hour days. The 8 hour workday and the weekend is all thanks to the courageous efforts of labor advocates.

You’re aware of all the changes you need to make, or at least you have a strong intuition. All of my lasting adaptations have been built on tiny increments gained over time, and only from a place of love. Be kind to yourself. Also, if you’re not already looking at it, strongly consider your sleep hygiene. Good, consistent sleep is the base of the pyramid. No lasting change, especially when it comes to one’s physical condition, can be sustained if your sleep is shit.
