  • At least with the ship of theseus it’s an inanimate object. You could replace any board or sail and still consider it the ship in question. Is it still in fact the ship of theseus? That’s debatable but you could say that it still represents the ship.

In this case BioWare is made up of thinking human beings all that are motivated by different factors. You can’t replace one person with another and expect the same of them even if you got someone who followed the initial person’s logic as closely as possible, they’d still end up with different results to the first.

That is if EA even cares enough to replace the previous developers with like minded individuals which I highly doubt. BioWare of old, make great games while telling the best stories possible. After modern day EA’s influence? Make as much money as you can while puppeteering as the BioWare of old.

That’s how I see it anyways.

  • That’s not entirely true, I like GOG. But I will say that a big part of why I dislike the use of so many launchers is because 98% of my game library already exists on steam. Publishers would like to use the storefront analogy but I think that gamers look at it more like moving house, and no one likes to move house.

Also you have to consider that a lot of modern day PC gamers grew up with consoles where there are no launchers there is just the home page and the games.

That’s not to touch on the much more prevalent and important topics like privacy concerns and the like.

  • That’s really weird actually… I’m browsing my posts both here on Lemmy and on Kbin and there’s a serious discrepancy between the two like take this very post for example, on Kbin I see 25up and 6down whereas on Lemmy I see 26up and 19down. The upvote difference I think is attributed to the fact that Lemmy give you 1up by default and from the looks of things, Kbin doesn’t. What I don’t understand is the difference in downvotes, there’s 13down that aren’t being accounted for on Kbin, I wonder why… 🤔 And it’s not just this post, it’s a lot of my posts, one I made on the Mass Effect community has 17up and 1down on Lemmy and on Kbin it’s sitting at 1up and 0down also of note, the amount of comments is off, Kbin has 14 and Lemmy has 18. Very odd. I presume if it’s happening to me, then it’s probably happening to others as well.
