Saw this on Mastodon and had a laugh. Not sure if it’s real, but it’s funny.
It would be much funnier if they dropped the “except you” part, implying that you’re not in your right mind.
I guess I am lame. I was there in July, when every true Fin is not to be found in Helsinki because there in their summer homes next to a lake.
I wish to go to Finland one day, I wish to test mine cold resistance against theirs. My best is -10 in a suede jacket, t-shirt, and standard cargo pants because I put my jeep into a ditch because fucking black ice.
But for how long?
About 4 hours maybe more, IDK that’s just around the amount I was bored for and there was a solid chunk of time where I just stood around like a jackass.
Until I get really sleepy.
The duration really makes the difference here. I went to school in a tshirt at - 5°C several times because I wasnt outside for mor than five minutes in one go. But I really felt it when my train got cancelled one time and I had to wait 45 minutes in the shade for the next one.
Wind and humidity also play a big role. I am fairly cold resistant but as soon as you add wind to the equation thin single linen or cotton layers become inadequate for the occasion.
C or F?
F, I’m from California after all.
I’ve always had this romantic idea of meeting a woman from Finland, fall in love, and maybe, not likely, find peace.
When I was younger, I had that dream too. But it was a dude instead of a lady. And we would start a heavy metal band.
That would be nice.
I read bastard instead of badass. But the energy matched.
I have been to Helsinki in November, I loved it. Nice and cold and dry and also got some snow. Awesome people, great food, I would totally go back.
Nice! Often in November, it is just cold rain, and eternal darkness. January-February are the best winter months!
Is November even the worst time to visit Finland? I’d assume January or February
January and February have snow and cold and sometimes sun.
November is just wet, dark and miserable.

I like the Suomi.
The clear blue sky backdrop leads to mild confusion
Well, Helsinki (HEL is the airport) is very popular in October for some reason
I went there once for some work and it was -16c. I was glad I’d bought the right coat and gloves. :)
I will just note to any possible reader, that hat is also very important, head radiates a lot of heat.
You’re not wrong. I just have a massive thick head of hair :D
Pretty sure they had that sign some year outside Slush, the venture capital event that’s coming up soon again.
I thought the Finns made fun of others for being overly complimentary/glazing?
