How was this idiot ever popular? The show sucked, his “comedy” sucked, and he as a person sucks. His stand up was so bad that his style is now the stereotypical bad comic in tv and movie tropes.
Good time slot. Decent writing. Good on screen talent (for the most part) surrounding Seinfeld which often helped to fill out the stories. Think of all the guest appearances over the years, lots of quality actors who all grew into their characters.
That always puzzled me. His whole character was of an ordinary guy, but he’s such a massive toolshed.
He openly hates anyone who would be described as a fan, he has so much money and he’s just a massive douchenozzle. How much more do you have to have to be happy and or a little bit kind?
Money and fame do weird shit to your brain. A handful of people have managed to have money and not be a miserable jackass, but it seems to be the minority.

It was an okay show at the time. Same with his comedy. Neither were the best, but both industries have come a long way in the last 30 years.
Full agree that he sucks as a person, though.

Marty Short isn’t a prick, just remember that.
