Andy Burnham has said there are “strong indications” Iran played a part in a suspected terror plot near RAF Fairford.

The UK is working closely with US and the authorities have the situation under “the strongest grip”, the Prime Minister insisted after Donald Trump criticised the decision to release the suspects.

Five British nationals, all in their mid-20s, were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and terrorism near the military base over the weekend before being bailed under investigation on Monday.

Calling this terrorism is ridiculous. They were trying to get in to a military base which stationed bombers actively used in the ongoing war. Reminds me of the ploughshares movement if it wasn’t sponsored by Iran.

This looks like manufacturing consent, to be able to enter the Iran war beside the USA and Israel, i.e. some kinky orange balls licking being done in broad daylight

Ah yes, Iran pulled the strings on a plot to steal fuel nearby a base in Britain. Truly brilliant analysis, gentlemen.

Isn’t terrorism by definition only when the act is committed against non-military targets?

Terrorism doesn’t have a definition: it’s a slur. It’s not an action that you do, it an identity that your are. An identity that means you don’t deserve human dignity or respect. it’s not even associated with violence since being born in Gaza qualifies you, or wearing a “free Palestine” T-shirt.

There can be no coherent definition of terrorism that wouldn’t include every military force that ever existed. (and the police too). The true definition of a terrorist is someone who annoys the powerful.

Wouldn’t a terror attack also be an act of war on British soil?

Being accurate is important, especially when misleading claims can lead to a war getting even bigger

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism

Terrorism, in its broadest sense, is the use of violence against non-combatants to achieve political or ideological aims

With how hard the trump admin is pushing this, I’m going to need more evidence before repeating their talking points.

Something can be more than one thing at once, point is with regard to reporting the incident terrorism is the lesser of the two evils.

Oh I see what you mean

I guess it’s hard to say which one is more likely to kick off a wider war. I was thinking along the lines of 911 and using terrorism to sell it to the population. But I can also see how the opposite could be true, especially if there are legal mechanisms on how the country needs to respond
