I am just curious about people’s taste here, since this community looks sane compared to other “loony-toons” gaming subs or forums online.
You don’t need to explain yourself just name them.
Thanks
- Doom
- Doom 2
- Doom 64
- Doom 2016
- Doom Dark Ages
- Chrono Trigger
- Megaman X
- Metal Gear Solid 3
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Play blasphemous if you haven’t
I have, and its sequel! Great games.
Excellent, the second really shined as a proper sequal.
What about Cuphead?
And also, anything not in your list you’d recommend on the Castlevania front?
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Minecraft
Stardew Valley
Metal Gear Solid
Half-Life 2
Minecraft
Mario 64
OG WoW
Final Fantasy VI (FF3 in NA, 1994, SNES)
Lemmings.
Wolfenstein.
Doom.
Descent.
Unreal Tournament.
When I was a kid, I was sure that Descent would take off more than Doom. Maybe the worst prediction I ever made, but I still stand by the spirit of it.
have you played Overload from the creators of Descent? quite fun!
I have, yep. It’s pretty good.
I thought that Descent was way better than Doom. We used to play it after work and it was fantastic.
I’ve never been a first person shooter fan though.
Twisted Metal
Starsiege: Tribes
Half Life 2
Fallout New Vegas
Skyrim
Honorable mention to old school WoW. It was the people I played with who made it great.
Team Fortress 2
Portal 2
Deus ex
Prey
Tony Hawk pro skater 2
Ocarina of Time
Chrono Trigger
Smash Bros. Melee
Crash Bandicoot 2
Pokemon Red/Blue
- Outer Wilds
- SOMA
- Red Dead 2
- Factorio
- Half-Life 2
Honorable mentions:
- Warframe should be the example by which live service games are designed and operated.
- Crimson Desert… is such a paradox of game design. In almost all aspects, 70% of the game is fantastic, but the remaining 30% is a shocking display of incompetence and/or indifference. The exception is player training, which is consistently horrible.
EverQuest (PC)
Final Fantasy 7 (PS1)
GoldenEye 007 (N64)
Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast)
Super Mario World (SNES)
Terraria
Lost Kingdoms 2
Rengoku 2
Dark Souls 2
Underrail
I just realized I like sequel games and Underrail 2 is in the works and I know I’m getting it.
Me starting DS2: What a horrible game. They ruined the roll!
Me finishing DS2: THIS IS A MASTERPIECE.
Quake
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars
Unreal Tournament
Outer Wilds
Half-Life
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3
- Sonic and Knuckles
Alien IsolationSonic Spinball
Ironically, I think Sonic Spinball is my favorite Sonic game.
I had/have a love/hate relationship with it. It’s literally the most consistently frustrating game I have ever played - I have never once made it past Lava Powerhouse - but after a long enough time, the mind forgets all that, and the heart yearns once more for the Toxic Caves…
(Toxic Caves literally the best music in the franchise IMO, by the way, though it’s a close run thing with Casino Night Zone.)
Haha! It’s been a long time, but I know I’ve finished it more than once. They give you so much control over the “ball”.
Toxic Caves is a certified banger, but I’m not sure it tops Mystic Cave Zone from Sonic 2 for me.
Why no Sonic CD?
It felt better to me to only include the mega drive games.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles. The only way to play it!
And mean Bean machine is a great way to kill time. Love the music!
(Not in a specific order):
Super Metroid
Zelda Twilight Princess
Fallout New Vegas
Doom Eternal
Metroid Prime
- Tetris.
- Planescape: Torment.
- Wing Commander 1 and 2, plus Secret Missions.
- The Secret of Monkey Island.
- This is a hard one, but let’s go with Crusader Kings II with all main expansions, as long as you can get it on sale; SIm City 2000 otherwise, though there are many contenders.
