Remember ye old life-hack that you can use earbuds as a microphone in a pinch?
Speakers and microphones are conceptually the same technology. If your tv can play sound then in theory it can be used by a malicious hacker or company to record sound.
probably some mossad-level shit, not for the regular everyday leftist “domestic terrorist” eh ?
I hope not.
I think i can still trust my devices to not be actively listening trough every hole. I can, right?
trust you devices’ holes, my friend
Those are LEDs.
My magic trick: Le Firewall.
You have not been paying attention.
Ah, tell me again how the data gets transferred with a bit of the magic Le Firewall
I wish my smart TV remote had a mic, it’s so much easier to say what I want to search for than using the remote to type on the onscreen keyboard.
Oh, wrong community.
I think ill just jeep using my LCD from 2007
Yeah, that’s probably the smart move
No, it’s not smart, that’s the point! ;)
Nice one lmao
Just curious, what kind of batteries are powering the remote and if rechargeable, how often does it need charging? Not saying they wouldn’t do such things, still a good preventative measure, but I’d be surprised if it could sustain telemetry with only the power of AAA batteries in a typical remote.
Two AAA batteries and they weren’t changed in a year so yeah, ouch.
Smart enough to be able to remove the mic from the remote, not smart enough to figure out that its not constantly recording for a year on 2 AAA batteries.
Dude of course it’s not constantly recording, but the fact that it can record on two AAA batteries even every now and then for over a year is ridiculous
Yea that’s true. Does it have a microphone button your remote at least? Also, my original comment was in jest, if it didn’t come across that way.
Is it really as much of a privacy problem as TV microphones? After all wouldn’t the battery die?
Well this remote is connected to the TV via Bluetooth and the mic is super energy efficient so yeah, to hell with it
No, you’re all getting it wrong.
Collect books, and use the microplastic that you have ingested over the years to build a water-tight caccoon in a cave to protect them.
Everything else simply requires rocks and/or genitalia. Or the absence of rocks and/or genitalia.
Such is a way.
If I don’t want to take the remote apart I guess covering the mic opening with tape would be the next best thing? (Apart from never connecting it to WiFi, which I’ve never done anyway.)
This remote didn’t even have an opening so I can only imagine how little covering it with a tape would do. I mean tape your phone’s mic and you will sound like shit, but you can still be understood. So yeah, never connect it in the first place but I chose to nuke the mics out of spite.
Don’t buy these kinds of TVs in the first place?
Sure thing, please look up what a 50 inch 4K dumb screen costs and report back to me.
