No. I enjoyed it immensely. That’s just how good the soundtrack is; to be even better than that.
It’s not a terrible movie. I think the main complaint about it is the use of the manic pixie girl trope.
Came here to say this as well. Movie is kinda meh but the soundtrack is so solid I even like the Coldplay song on there! (and imo Coldplay is WACK)
Pirates of the Caribbean. The plot, characters, actors, and effects are fine enough. Specifically the plot is bland; it’s deliberately a hodgepodge of everything piratey tossed into a blender. Johnny Depp’s performance is excellent, but more because it feels the script was shaped around his eccentric dude persona rather than them stretching their skills. None of this makes the film bad just mediocre.
… but the score is a masterpiece. Instantly iconic, filled with layered motifs, carries the sense of adventure and perfectly shapes the mood of each scene. Both catchy enough to become an earworm, but orchestral and textured enough that it’s not unwelcome as one.
Yeah I have to agree, although I personally love the films as well.
1492: Conquest of Paradise. Very few people remember the movie (I still do and rewatch it regularly), but the soundtrack by Vangelis is an absolute banger.
In general, his soundtracks tend to be better than the movies. Alexander is another great example. Chariots of Fire and Bounty are fine movies, but still greatly enhanced by his soundtracks. Perhaps the only movie that stood on its own against a soundtrack by Vangelis was Blade Runner.
Chariots isn’t that great of a movie but I still love it, primarily bc they respected Vangelis enough to let the soundtrack talk. Tremendous, sensitive, emotional work from a truly great one

Really? I thought Edge of Tomorrow is rather neat. Eyes Wide Shut is definitely something you’d remember if you watch it.
Yeah, definitely not a fan of him, but can’t deny the value of his works.
Edge of tomorrow has been on my to do list because that director is pretty good. So I’m thinking I will enjoy it once I actually get to it.
Eyes Wide Shut I think I’ve absorbed too much of it through cultural osmosis to appreciate the shock it seems made to illicit. You’re right, though I might have liked it if I saw it in the 90’s.
I’d definitely recommend Edge of Tomorrow.

Edge of Tomorrow is like a michael bay movie if it were a legitimately good action flick. Just good bang for your buck. I thought I’d be bored seeing tom cruise and explosions and some weird generic sci fi war. Nope. Spoiler alert: its a movie with tom cruise and some and explosions and some weird sci fi war. And I was legitimately surprised by how entertaining it was still haha.
I believe it was also produced with Jason Bentley which is dope!
All Disney star wars movies
I’d argue that all Star Wars soundtracks are better than their associated movies. This is not necessarily to say that the movies are bad, though that can be debated, but the soundtracks are phenomenal.
George Lucas turned up to make an homage to the Flash Gordon serials he enjoyed as a kid.
John Williams turned up to make art.
Interesting the divide here between who think soundtrack is orchestral music composed for the movie and others who think its a bunch of pop songs the director liked.

Was Last Action Hero good? I never saw it, but the soundtrack is loaded with 90s music.
Last Action Hero is alright. It’s an on-the-nose send-up of the action genre. AC-DC wrote a song for it, Big Guns.
It’s a very…literal send-up of the action movie genre. if you’re not familiar with it, a young boy ends up magically teleported into an action movie he’s watching, and spends half of the run time of both films trying to convince the over the top action hero that it’s a movie.
It’s fun for what it is; I personally think True Lies does the “lol action movies, amirite?” thing better.
I enjoy Last Action Hero. I probably won’t go so far as to call it “good”, but it’s fun, especially if you grew up watching 80s action movies.
Put in my vote for _Flash Gordon _. Now, look, I love the movie, but the Queen album that goes with it is incredible.
