After the shit shows of Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online, I don’t think I actually give a shit about either anymore.

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it’s not shit.

ESO isn’t being developed by Bethesda Game Studios. Zenimax Online Studios is the developer.

It’s only relationship to Bethesda is through the publishing side, Bethesda Softworks.

All of these companies are owned by Zenimax Media, though.

It showcases how little pride they put into their franchise. Like… if I need a frame built for a new house construction, and the local meth addict offers to do it for 1/10th the cost of the cheapest actual framing company, and I say “Sweet! Let’s have the meth addict do it!” …and he does a predictably shit and unfinished job despite claiming he could do it just as well as professional framers… the main problem here isn’t that a guy who’s brain was fried by meth framed my house, the problem is that I hired someone who’s brain was cooked by meth to frame my house!

Shitting on Zenimax Online Studies is like pinning the situation on the addict.

The fucked up thing was 76 was actually a pretty chill and fun game. My roommate got me to play it for a few weeks…

And then Bethesda decided to change the level scaling so that everything was a bullet sponge.

Now I wont claim it was the best fallout game, but I was having fun exploring the map, figuring out the story, and having super high level players give me gear and ammo as a relative newbie.

In my opinion they broke the game the moment everything scaled to my level and I was forced to feel the grind constantly. A clear money grab to make players spend on in game purchases.

Besides that I’ll defend the 76 esthetic and community. When I left, it was because it stopped being fun to scrape for everything. Especially in areas that I had cleared 20 levels ago.

Before the change there was a flow to game play. You would grind, push forward to an area, then retreat to safer areas where your camp would be to relax, explore, and craft. It was a low-stakes ride that had challenging moments you had to prep for. Every so often you’d see some newbie and blow their mind by giving them a ridiculous amount of the cheap bullets and junk armor. You know, typical small scale mmo stuff.

But man, after that scaling change…It’s like remembering two different games.

Makes sense. Honestly I don’t understand why everyone is freaking out about all this shit.

Like, video games take time to make, especially at the scale Bethesda makes them. People need to chill the fuck out about ESVI imo. It’ll come out when it’s ready.

        mods help with that

I hope you’re not expecting to mod the Obsidian game…

Why not? People mod New Vegas all the time. I last played it with the randomizer mod and I loved the chaos it brings.

            FNV is on Gamebryo.

I’m making the assumption that the new Obsidian Fallout will be on Unreal like Obsidians modern games.

You can still mod unreal games? Although I’ve had varying success with that. Most recently with Dishonored because you need a separate program to properly mod the games.

With extreme amounts of effort you can do small things.

Modding gamebryo/creation is as easy as loading xedit and playing around.

Honestly with how hyper-monetized the triple-a games have become I’ve shifted my focus more and more to similar games from smaller and less established studios.

Like at this point I would be more hyped in some small team doing spiritual sequel to something like morrowing or oblivion that the actual TES VI.

Also many studios like Bethesda, ID and Blizzards are essentially ships of theseus meaning most key people have either left or made to effectively sabotage their own games .

Honestly Id rather have Creation Engine anything than Unreal Engine 5. Ill even take regressed versions like Gamebryo or NetImmerse.

Can’t just load up xedit and make a 30 second mod for Unreal, you’ve got to have the source code for the game, a full version of unreal editor and around 500 hours to rebake everything for a tiny change.

Do you really think that Unreal Engine has been rebuilt from scratch for every version? Because it hasn’t, code gets upgraded and adapted all the time at every company.
