it can be books, video games,Movies,TV Shows, etc(though i will be focusing mainly on Video Games)
i wanted to ask long running/active since it would be more interesting.
i would love to hear your answers!

my attempt at the rules defining Active and Long Running

am also not sure the definition of long running/active.
maybe the last game(dlcs, updates and unreleased games dont count) should be from 1-3 years ago(or makes video games atleast every 1-3 years as of 2026), and the franchise should have first existed from atleast 2004-2006 or older i think.
it can also be that it says online that its still present

My list

so let me start:
franchise dates as of March 10,2026(if i dont say present it does not mean the franchise is dead)
Video games:

  • Touhou Project(1997-2025): I love Touhou 18,good fanbase/fan content(for the most part atleast),good OST.
the bad thing tbh it used GenAI (its not as bad as it sounds though)
its franchise/video games are pretty Niche but good.
currently taking a hiatus (under the end of march/early April) but i will be back so am still including it here.
  • DOOM(1993-2025): well you guys know this ,DOOM 1 from 1993 and DOOM II are pretty good. but i prefer this open source version called FreeDOOM.(and put some TC mods on top of FreeDOOM)
the bad thing is the company behind it(Bethesda then Microsoft)
  • Asphalt(2004-2023): has been a while since i played any of its games,unsure .
like DOOM bad company good game

and thats what i remember

(i apologize if i posted this 3 times,my client glitched out )

Evil Dead. I love the original trilogy, the TV show was awesome and the new ones are great as well. I wish there was a truly great videogame but what we have is fine, I guess.

My main one’s are Sonic The Hedgehog and, now that Konami is FINALLY putting out GOOD games again, Silent Hill.

Others are Hollow Knight, Warhammer 40K, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures

TIL Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures,Warhammer 40,000 is long running and still active.
but i assume you also included franchises that you like (not just long running and still active) which is fine its nice having general favorite franchises too.

They just released content for Neon Genesis Evangelion this year, they released several movies for it between 2009 and 2021, and the original series released in 1995, so I’d say it matches long running and still active.

Not sure about Hollow Knight, though. The first game released in 2017, they released additional content for it over a few years, and then the new game released last year. I don’t think I’d count that as long running, personally, but you made the thread.

ohhh, Then i didnt do search to the latest show released in the franchise, and i forgot there was a 30th anniversary movie too.

Dark Souls. Feels too obvious and common now but they really used to be industry nobodies and learned great lessons from it over a very long period of time. I’ve never had anything stay present in my life for so long.

    1. Sherlock Holmes books. New are still written and published, and many are quite good.
    2. Warhammer 40k books. A mixed bag, but you’ll find your favourite authors soon.
    3. Riftwar Cycle. A few dozen books over three decades. Last book was in 2013, so it’s probably no longer active, but you’ll never know…

For a show, I’d have choose One Piece right now. For video games I think I still have to say GTA, battlefield is up there for me as well.

Mines been Fallout ever since 2001, when I found the OG Fallout game on sale and decided to give it a shot despite knowing nothing about it.

It’s had highs and lows, but I’m a big fan of the dark, but a little bit silly Wasteland.

Aren’t most long running and active media franchises just cash grabs?
