• FYI: Bail is not a get out of jail free card

Its just setting down a sort of “security deposit” and promising to go to the court date, and they’ll take your money if you don’t show up to court and also issue a warrant for your arrest. You still have to face a trial.

If you are considered “dangerous”, they could deny letting you go on bail.

So not really a whole lot of “chaos”. It’s actually a good thing to let people go if they a haven’t been convicted of a crime yet. Cuz keeping innocent people (cuz that’s what they are before a conviction) in custody is injustice.

There are also laws about who can post bail for you. My understanding is that they need to either have an actual relationship with you or be a licensed bondsman. Either be someone who can guilt you into going to court or who will hire a bounty hunter to haul you in.

(And bail bonds are unfair bullshit, but that’s a different thing.)

I don’t think this is a thing. The court could reject you if you’re suspicious, but I don’t think there are laws saying “you need a blood relationship to post bail for someone”

I’d love to see someone do the math, I’d bet one dude could bail out every eligible person in the US. Probably wouldn’t even have to be Musk/Bezos/Gates.
