Well, they intentionally remove themselves from the broader community because they think they’re better than the “unwashed masses” for one. They also tend to fearmonger about violent crime and generally vote for fascists. They tend to be class traitors in general

I dont care for subdivisions. A bunch of cookie-cutter houses packed too closely, isolated from the rest of their town. Overpriced houses with HOAs deciding how you handle your own property.
I find nothing about them appealing.
There’s a very large gated community right beside my apartment, that’s in between me and the lake I live near. If I could walk thru the gated comm, I could reach the lake in ~15min. Instead I have to go around which is more than twice as far with lots of up-hill.
They deliberately reject larger society
Because I hate unnecessary fences. And people who love them are annoying.
The people who live in them are usually not very nice to me
I’m not sure why people hate them. I guess the other comments kind of explains it, the reality is I don’t hate them. I don’t have an issue with them. If you want to live in a gated community ok fine go live in a gated community. no skin off my nose.
