To simplify, it was a political group of Catholic conservatives, which fought the Protestant kings and queens. They were not especially black.

There’s a group of people who are (rightly) concerned that black folks have been omitted from history, and have overcorrected to claiming that basically all important historical figures ever were black. Another comment in this thread mentioned the Black Israelites, but there’s also the Nation of Islam (nothing Yakub made could be good of course).
Betting the lost black tribe nonsense is a corruption of some African Christian myth. The Christians were already there by the 1st century, and in no small numbers, building churches, all that. There’s a lot of history there I’m ignorant of.
