That’s the main reason his policy will fail to bring factories back to the USA. Stability. Business planners need stability to create accurate forecasts and strategies.

      • That and the fact that he’s already said he’d remove them if countries do what he wants. Why would someone invest in setting up a business if the tariffs protecting their product can be removed at any time?

And countries ‘doing what he wants’ is no guarantee that a reprieve would be any more than temporary. As soon as he feels like extorting America’s partners again, or if he needs to distract from yet another one of his screw-ups, then he’ll just bring on tariffs again.

You don’t. You ship it and see what the bill is when it hits the border.

It’s part of why companies are halting shipments. You can try to guess what the upcharge(s) will be at the border(s) and pass that to the customer; but if you get it wrong (or it changes mid-transit), you’re either charging your customers excessively, driving them off, or you’re eating additional costs yourself.

The pauses will not stop the rest of the world from moving away from reliance on the US. Not just in Canada but Europe and Asia and Mexico and others too.

This instability and recklessness and irrationality is terrible for businesses. And noting you can say can change the fact that US voters selected these asshats twice. America cannot be relied up, they are fucking cooked.

The rest of the world will work together, without them.
