I heard a lot of commentary about the price of eggs tonight. I live in San Diego, America’s most expensive city. I’ve seen at some major chains a dozen eggs in the $6 - $9 range. Most stores I’ve seen them around $4 or $5 bucks a dozen. I also purchased a dozen yesterday for $2.79, and that was through Doordash even. So like, I call bullshit. Americans are dumb and too lazy to shop around. The gas station closest my house is $5.80 according to Google just now, but I filled up last night about 5 miles away with cash for $3.99. So infuriating that lack of effort or stupidity is likely what drove Trump back into office.

Yeah, the demographics of voters are just made up, huh? They are the overwhelming supporters of the far right. Don’t wanna be painted like that? Don’t vote for fascists.

I’m a cis white guy too, for the record, and I’m not saying it’s something inherent in skin colour or having a penis that makes someone an asshole. But it’s classic bully behaviour to tell people lower on the hierarchy “look what you made me do”. You want things to be less divided then you should start by accepting the simple facts.

No the demographics of voters are very real and the Kamala campaign spent virtually no time convincing cis white males that their lives would be better under Kamala.

Virtually everyone votes out of self interest. Trying to convince people to vote out of altruism while they perceive they will be losing out isn’t going to work.

If someone “perceives they are losing out” because of doing something positive for women or minorities then that says a lot about their worldview, they are the ones responsible for polarisation there.

When Trump was first elected, it made me realize how stupid most of the US is. The results of this election were not surprising, I even linked to the sort of self-serving articles that preceded just before Hillary-Trump’s elections to people who were doing the same in this election. At least in this election, it’s sort of like Israel, they are leaving no doubt about who they support. I don’t even care if Kamala gets the popular vote, most criticize the electoral college word only and refuse to consider gerrymandering as electoral fraud, leading to it occurring in greater and newer ways this election.

Canada has an increasing anti immigrant sentiment right now. They’ve announced big cut backs to the number of immigrants allowed. Furthermore, moving to another country is difficult and expensive. It’s not a realistic option for most people.

Tbh most of the ire aimed at immigrants here is specifically targeted to either Indian or Ukrainian migrants. Infrastructure is genuinely buckling under the weight of migration but it’s a case of too little investment and not entirely the result of immigration.

I can say as a white, western immigrant to Canada that I’ve never had anyone complain about my immigration however I’ve had locals complain about immigration to me forgetting that I am indeed one of the immies.

Not in my experience, no. It doesn’t seem to be an issue with any particular group, although some people may be more vocal about Indian immigrants in particular - for what seems to be racially motivated reasons in my opinion.

The main complaint is that we’ve allowed too many people all at once and we now face issues with the lack of housing availability and affordability, the state of the economy, overpopulation and the potential strain on public resources.

That said, China has a lot of shit going on, but a credit system is not one of them. For example, they are actively trying to tamp down social (and physical) mobility. It’s a shit place right now, maybe it always was.

This is certainly an enormous turning point for America, but it’s also a very dark day for the outlook of the future of… well basically everything.

The continuation of our species on this earth are facing problems that are more complex than can be put into a slogan or a headline, and both Trump and his voters are to dumb to understand such matters. My biggest fear is for the environment. Only the EPA and California are allowed to set environmental standards and the rest of us can only pick which to follow. Hopefully my state politicians will remain steadfast, but I have no way of supporting California when they come for the environment. If California can hold and the dozen or so that follow that remain true, maybe there’s still a hope for the environment my kids will live in
