Kroger had a system for a while where you could bring your own bags and they would have a bunch of hand held scanners for you to use. You just grabbed one at the front and could scan and bag right into your cart. They would spot check you when you were done. I only ever got checked once while using the system, and I had a couple of missed items. That system was a shoplifter’s dream.

This is like the complete opposite feeling I had the one time I went to Vegas. I played slots for all of an hour and I felt sick at all the money I flushed down the drain, even though I ended up pretty much breaking even. I spent the rest of the time there just wandering the strip people watching and taking in the sights.
MY SPOON IS TOO BIG!
You’re right about farther back than ancient Rome. A few months ago I went to a mummy’s tomb exhibit from ancient Egypt. People considered shaving so important they were buried with their razors so they could shave in the afterlife. Not just faces either, body and head hair were not spared.

1·2 months agoAnd there would be one phone centrally located in the house, usually in the kitchen. If you were lucky the phone cord would be long enough to stretch into a closet or something where you could close the door and have a modicum of privacy. Otherwise everyone nearby would get an earful of your conversation. And you couldn’t chase your annoying siblings away because the phone line was too short.

Who is that and why does it appear she’s turned herself into a blow-up doll?

5·6 months agoI switched to Linux full time almost two years ago when Win 10 started saying my CPU wasn’t supported. My CPU is in the i7 family and I think they all got that treatment. Since then I’ve had no major issues with Linux Mint. As for gaming, I do get some frame drops with my Nvidia 3060, but I was getting the same on Windows.

Yes the marauder in all its inceptions is a wonderful machine. I’m planning an all marauder lance for my current playthrough of BTA3062. Marauder II, Nightstar, Marauder IIC, and a MAD-5M (just for nostalgia). All with clan tech
And an AWS-8Q to mount them on. Just watch your heat.

7·1 year agoThe US implementation of chip and PIN left off the PIN. The reason given was “no one wants to put in a PIN every time” so for the vast majority of transactions you just hold up your card to the sensor or put it in the chip reader. PIN is only required for cash withdrawals in my experience.

The tv show aired while I was in college. If you knew who Lynch was before going into it, you kinda expected it to be weird just for the sake of being weird, because that’s David Lynch in a nutshell. And it did live up to those expectations, I must admit. The backwards taking dream sequence, the log lady, agent Cooper’s obsession with coffee, all fit. In fact when MacLachlan’s character in Fallout was making coffee I fully expected to hear his famous line from Twin Peaks
