Talks about punching people for minor things and then suggests other people need to “act like a fucking adult.” Cute.
I’d rather work with the Gen Z kids any day over someone like you. They sound fun and quirky. You sound like a dick.

Oh shit, isn’t that GIF from Parasyte: the Maxim? Outstanding show.

I have time, it’s just that I can think of much better things to do with it. I spend my free time generally either reading, gaming solo and with my spouse, and exercising. TV is fine occasionally, but it’s such a passive activity.

Damn, I’ll have to keep not subscribing!
Game looks really good, but totally not my thing. Happy for the folks that’ll enjoy it though.
Here’s the original text (hopefully autocorrect doesn’t screw it up, I’m posting on mobile):
It is the 41st millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, a master of a million worlds by the might of His inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that He may never truly die.
Yet even in His deathless state, the Emperor continues His eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor’s will. Vast armies give battle in His name on uncounted worlds. Greatest among His soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Astra Militarum and countless planetary defense forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat of aliens, heretics, mutants — and worse.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
It’s the intro on pretty much every 40k book there is (Edit - not on A Thousand Sons, that has a different intro, so probably not Horus Heresy and the like, anything occurring in the 30k era).
I just checked my copy of the first Ciaphas Cain novel as well as Wreck and Ruin (Sister of battle novel) and it’s copied essentially word for word.
It’s literally just the intro to most Warhammer 40k books, just with McConnell swapped for the emperor and a few words changed.
It’s copypasta.

Same. I loved the PS1 and PS2.
It’s been easy enough to set up a gaming PC in the living room for both desk and couch gaming (my gaming rig automatically switches to the TV if the TV and receiver inputs are on). Sony exclusives just aren’t what they used to be, and I haven’t really cared much since the PS2/PS3 era. I sold my consoles in 2012 and haven’t looked back, still more games than I’ll ever have time to play.

In the early 00s I made a fair bit of money as a side hustle fixing stuff that the Geek Squad had messed up.
I did this for a bit in the late 90’s and early 2000s. Didn’t really do many jobs (I had two jobs and college to deal with already). Eventually quit altogether after a pastor gave me a computer to fix that was riddled with porn and malware. I cleaned it up, gave it back in good shape, and a few days later he wanted his money back because it had viruses again and said I hadn’t fixed it.
I told him I’d give him his money back if I could look at it right then and there and confirm he didn’t download a bunch of porn again. He took the machine and left without another word. It was small change stuff that was more hassle than it was worth, and that was the end of it for me. I do not need to know this stuff about people.

Also IT since the mid-2000s. I “need” AI for my job now… because my company went in for it, told us to use it, and cut our support staff by 40% over the past year so there’s not enough time to actually work and investigate case issues properly anymore and we’re all completely overloaded. We’re basically a skeleton crew now. It can only be an effort to increase perceived value for a sell-off, or the company is in a death spiral. Probably both.
I’ve had it with this.

Hope so. If that happens, it’ll mean my wife won’t have to. We only have each other and I wouldn’t want her to have to go through that.
Not sure what you mean by “if everyone follows Sony’s example.” Sony is the one following, and DRM has been around since old PC games in the 80s.
Denuvo, easy anti-cheat, EA Play and Ubisoft’s platform with forced logins and online requirements, and plenty of other DRM methods have been around long before all this.
If you want to change it, you have to not buy from them entirely, not just do a short partial boycott. They only ever back down if there’s a major cost.
I feel like we have a misunderstanding. I don’t own a PS5, and sold all my consoles as of the PS3/Xb360 generation, sometime between 2010 and 2012. For ownership I can buy at GOG, or buy Steam games that don’t have DRM.
I’m not sure how this leads to Sony having a monopoly? Or how it changes it? If a game is only available on PS5, it’s only playable on PS5, with it without a disc. If it’s multi-platform the issue is moot either way.
I’m a big advocate of ownership. I strip DRM from my books, I have a NAS full of FLAC music I purchased rather than stream. I boycotted EA and bought nothing from them for nearly a decade when Madden became console exclusive, on principle.
It’s just… if you care about ownership, why play on a proprietary, locked down platform in the first place? And exactly how does a one week boycott resolve the issue? It just seems half-assed? Why not boycott altogether and/or change platforms?
And why just Sony? Nintendo is releasing carts that are literally just game codes for download. How is that different? The cart is essentially useless and conveys no ownership in that case either.
I gotta ask, why do people even care about this so much?
The games in most cases haven’t been fully contained on the discs since the PS2 era. With patches, updates, and required downloads to play, the disc itself is functionally useless in most cases.
Why is this such a big deal? Why is this the hill to die on and boycott over who knows how many other horrible things and business practices around?

Maybe, but that’s okay. Not every game needs to be for every player. I used to be very much into action heavy games, even did a big Nintendo Blockbuster tournament back when I was a kid and placed 4th regionally. And I was really big into the 2D fighting scene, particularly Street Fighter 3 and Guilty Gear series.
I’m in my 40s now, and I don’t really play those kinds of games much anymore. Action heavy games are fun from time to time, but they make my hands hurt. Also, I just don’t have the time to learn the meta, pokes, skills and strategies for fighting games anymore. And button mashing (like Mortal Kombat’s “test your might” sections) is right out. I don’t see the issue. Time marches on and we enjoy the things we can.
These days I’m more likely to play RPGs, indie, and retro games, with occasional dips into modern games, and while I still like fighting games, I’m more inclined to play ones that have a single player campaign and lower skill ceiling, like Soul Calibur 6. Anything with tons of button mashing or joystick waggling for range setting will have my hands hurting over time if I keep at it.

Balatro is one of the best examples of this. The game naturally gets easier as the player learns its systems and gains experience through playing.
Isn’t this the case for most Roguelites? It’s not even necessarily player skill, so much as unlocking permanent upgrades (Jokers in Balatro, abilities/cards in Across the Obelisk or Slay the Spire, stat boosts and weapon modifiers in Hades, etc.).

The “but I don’t have much time” argument feels especially weird, like would you demand a cliff notes version of a book or TV show because you don’t have the time otherwise?
Sweet Summer child…
Yes, there are dummies like that. I remember reading about someone actually bragging about “reading more” by asking for book summaries via AI.
Reads like Xenogears.
