Politics@beehaw.org•Kamala Harris says she’s ‘thinking about’ running for president again in 2028
152·22 hours agoNot a good idea.
I think Kamala got totally screwed over by Biden, I think there is a chance if he had stepped out earlier that she could have had more time to differentiate herself from Biden, but there just wasn’t enough time. A significant amount of voters didn’t even know Biden had dropped out it happened so late in the process.
That can be true along with the fact that Kamala is not the right candidate now and she won’t win. I say this as someone who criticized her heavily on certain issues but still voted for her because yeah Trump is a fascist.
Also… it isn’t because she is a woman it is because she doesn’t have a track record of being genuinely for everyday issues like housing, healthcare and genuinely progressive reform. There are better people for this moment. We need people like AOC, Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar etc…
We have a lot of amazing women in politics in the US right now all the way to nearly the highest levels of power, Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton just aren’t the right people for the moment, it isn’t about them being women though yes the US is sexist as hell still.

Climate@slrpnk.net•‘Non-survivable’: heatwaves are already breaching human limits [for older people] with worse to come, study finds431·3 days agoAnything that doesn’t kill you brings you closer to death in some way if it is hurtful.
Heatwaves push EVERYBODY closer to the edge and for many elderly and people with health issues the edge was already right there.
I don’t care if a city can claim technically zero heat deaths in the immediate aftermath of a heatwave, people die indirectly from the pure body stress of it excaberating other pre-existing issues and the impact doesn’t disappear the next day.

Ha well good thing I named my Defense Company that builds killer robots and brutally invasive spyware The One Ring. I was inspired by the power of the ring and think humanity can use it to do good!

5·6 days agoI like sopuli.xyz, mander.xyz is pretty cool, in general I recommend browsing your federated/all feed and checking out the new instance names you see and notice the instance names of the communities and users you seem to vibe with or that talk about things you are interested in.
Make accounts in a couple different places, to a reasonable degree you aren’t wasting anyones time if you want to try out a new instance but don’t end up liking it!
If you want you can use the same name as your account name on lemmy world so that it is easy to remember and for other people to know you are the same user. If that is what you want of course, that is just a suggestion if it feels overwhelming.

The most important part is to take more time than you think to speak, everyone always thinks they need to rush as if they are an inconvenience with their words, trust me your words are worth the time it takes to say them slowly, no matter what words you choose.

Of course it matters. I am not going to stoop to this pedantic of a level to continue to argue with you. If making food with your stove hurts your health and makes your body feel worse, it impacts the holistic experience of cooking and worse it hurts your health. Period, end of story.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Why thousands of New Yorkers swap gas for induction stoves in clean energy push: ‘It makes sense; States from California to Georgia are promoting induction stoves for climate, health and cost benefits72·8 days agoGas is not better than electric resistance stoves for one very serious, insurmountable issue, gas stoves give off a non-trivial amount of gas into the living area they are being used in, even when kitchen hoods are used. This is not something the gas stove industry wants to have a conversation about so we don’t here in the US.

World News@lemmy.ml•'War is Women’s Business': Ukraine Forces Women Into the Meat-Grinder
35·8 days agoPeople who think War isn’t a Woman’s Business utterly confound me. Have you not met a woman? Have you not looked into the history of Feminism in the diversity of forms it has taken all over the world?
It is not for me to demand people go to war, rather my point is that the idea that Women aren’t fit for War is borderline delusional to me. Almost all of the hardest fighting, most practical, resilient human beings I have met in my life are women, I would be terrified to try to fight them on a battlefield and I am thankful most of them were good people.
The point really in the end though is nobody should have to go to war so russia should stop its illegal war and occupation of Ukraine.
In this absurd moment I am reminded of my favorite novel Ulysses and how Ezra Pound once declared the problem with publishing in english at the time was it wasn’t masculine enough… and then proceeded to be unable to find anyone but anarchist women who were brave and militant enough to publish James Joyce with their printing presses because they could not be beaten and intimidated out of doing so in the US like the men were. You point at these people and say “they are unfit for war!”. What are you crazy?

^ do you want to tell me Emma Goldman wasn’t a soldier…???

Why do people think the majority or even a large percentage of people in the US at this point will die on the hill of their sexism and racism?
Some of those people exist but most people want to hear a politician speaking to real things, they don’t have the energy to engage in the degree of identity politics bullshit the DNC and DC class of pundits seem to think everyone does. Even if you are somewhat sexist or racist if someone is promising you well thought out cost of housing policy reforms at a certain point you have to look after your family and support it to keep a roof over your head.
Sure MAGA cultists won’t or at least won’t get caught doing it but that isn’t the point. It is about speaking to everyone else.
A woman can absolutely win the next presidential election, there is a good chance our best option is a woman. It comes down to how the next presidential candidate can speak to the issues that are crushing everyday people.
