Linux@lemmy.ml•Android 16 lets the Linux Terminal use your phone's entire storage
71·1 year agoI’d like to be able to test installing a full DE, but I made the mistake of getting only the 128GB model and so now I have always free storage issues 😅
Thanks! That’s a bit more helpful. Is there a guide explaining each part and how to install these?
I’m…not sure your link works correctly. It just takes me to the main page just like https://github.com/sipeed/NanoKVM.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Alternatives to Roku/AppleTV for Jellyfin ClientEnglish
1·1 year agoWithout having tried it, I know it has an Android TV version. I’m not sure what part isn’t user-friendly, as usually that part comes from deciding to go away without most of google oriented services. I installed FLauncher before, and it did its job quite nicely, but haven’t tried LOS, or how it would perform in a TV. For my very specific use case, I need Flauncher to open either Jellyfin or Smarttube. For these purposes the Nvidia could work. But I havent gottent into it yet, and I’m still waiting for better options.

1·1 year agoSorry… I meant from the perspective that you could/should install LOS on it. I think that’s about the only device allowing it, these days.

Android@lemmy.world•How to start using the new Linux terminal on your Android deviceEnglish
2·2 years agoI mean, if you get a way to invoke X/wayland to render in a decent way instead of the VNC callback methods currently being used, I might really want to think about this. But otherwise I don’t think we’ll be getting an alternative UI anytime soon. Also I very much doubt this is in Google’s interest to allow people to run a different graphical interface.

Technology@lemmy.world•Network question...Some sort of AP or directional antenna to connect a bit distant shed?English

Technology@lemmy.world•Network question...Some sort of AP or directional antenna to connect a bit distant shed?English
1·2 years agoThanks a lot! Would I need two of these devices? Or just the directional antenna hooked to the home router, then just any spare router to act as AP on the receiving shed?
EDIT: Additional question -> It seems to mention some cloud controller-options. Can these be managed completely locally via some local webUI?
I’m not too concerned about the TP-Link advisory in this case, as it wouldn’t be hooked to the internet directly (still needs to go through a non-TP-Link router), and this is in a rather sparse location far away.

Technology@beehaw.org•Google will develop the Android OS fully in private, and here's why
1·2 years agoIf you have Linux, you have waydroid. There can be a transition time, just like the Steam Deck is making clear the need of a windows computer for gaming is now irrelevant.

20·2 years agoI could only hope this would make a good case for some EU-funded project for a fully open RISC 5 Linux phone.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can I create/spin LXC with virt-manager or something similar?English
2·2 years agoThank you for the information! Since Proxmox does this by itself with those templates it uses, I never did this process. I guess I’ll check some guide…thanks a lot!

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can I create/spin LXC with virt-manager or something similar?English
2·2 years agoYup! I got that far. But when I try to create a new VM/container using LXC instead, I’m prompted for an URI. i have no idea what I’m supposed to enter there. In Proxmox it just downloads the templates itself from its own repository, but i have no idea what I’m supposed to input here. I didn’t find any guide about this :(

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can I create/spin LXC with virt-manager or something similar?English
2·2 years agoThanks…The first one might actually be a normal GUI. However I don’t see a way to compile it for non-debian (I’m running Nobara, which is Fedora-based). The second one is definitely a webUI.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can I create/spin LXC with virt-manager or something similar?English
2·2 years agoThanks…That’s my fault. I guess I wanted to mention I was looking for a GUI-like way of doing it. Same way virt-manager does. It handles libvirt in the background, but I guess a nice more intuitive manner of following a process to create a VM. I wanted to see if I can do something similar for a container.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can I create/spin LXC with virt-manager or something similar?English
2·2 years agoThanks! I was hoping it would have its own GUI, not having to run from a webUI…Kinda makes integration with a virtual desktop a bit easier. I’d like to have the equivalent of a virtualbox VM, with desktop etc, but running on a container.

…Thanks. I found their wiki. The flashing instructions were not in the github page, and I have the ‘full’ model, so the SD card is not exposed. I guess I’ll try to do it with the reset button. Is the github repo now fully open sourced? Or do I need to install a different image in order to be the complete FOSS version?
Thanks!
