Is there really a point to having ChromeOS on overly powerful x86 hardware? It always seemed like an OS that worked best on cheap ARM chipsets since everything was web and Android.
They’re one of the bigger firms hosting and keeping extreme right wing content available on the internet. They only come out and say they won’t host certain sites when enough of a stink is kicked up about them. Otherwise, they don’t care where the money comes from.
4chan is still being protected by Cloudflare after all these years. How long until people speak up and get Cloudflare to drop them too?
It did only just get a Blu-ray release a couple years back. Still doesn’t beat the Morton Jankel fan cut on the Internet Archive (well, maybe not in visual quality).
This is me except I use GNOME’s Password/Secret manager on my PC
I don’t know how I ever lived without Syncthing honestly
For public chargers? Payment processing. It’s like asking why a service station needs internet to process a card transaction to pay for your petrol.
Mind you, I do partially understand where you’re coming from. Most modern cars are unfortunately packed to the brim with so many computer controlled and internet intergrated components to the point where it hinders the reliability of the vehicle and the privacy of the vehicle’s occupants. For electric cars, a lot of this is somewhat unavoidable.
It’s for a lot of these privacy and reliability reasons (and money) that I’m just going to drive my current petrol car until it dies. Maybe we’ll start to see more hydrogen cars by then, preferably clean hydrogen. Maybe more car manufacturers will opt to just make models without all the touchscreen infotainment crap and just give me a radio and some dials to tell me what’s going on. I know Suzuki started making a version of the new Jimny with a bog standard radio in it, so there’s definitely a demand for basic cars that just work.
You still can, you just need a HiFi Deezer sub.
Deemix for the vast majority of stuff (I pay for a HiFi Deezer account so I can download FLACs), with Bandcamp, RuTracker and the occasional charity shop CD handling the other stuff not on Deezer.
I use a hard drive instead of discs because carrying around (not to mention buying) hundreds of PS2 games is a massive waste of time and space compared to just downloading a ton to a 2TB hard drive. The thrill of physical games isn’t worth the prices being charged for them on the second hard market.
In terms of performance, I’m using a third party adaptor for SATA hard drives (the original Sony adaptors were IDE based) which only works properly when forced to run at disc speeds. Load times are about the same as disc but they still beat most games running on slow PS4/Xbox One hard drives.
I just felt like pulling it out of the cupboard. It’s nowhere near the oldest machine I’ve got sitting around and it still works just fine, I’m just using it with an internal hard drive instead of discs. The disc drives in those things are the main point of failure.
I’m currently in a spot of bad internet so messing about the various games off a hard drive beats downloading hundreds of gigs of Game Pass games on my Xbox just to find something I want to play. The games, while low res, still look nice through a good set of video cables and a nice upscaler like a RetroTink 5x.
That’s probably why I was so drawn to it. I need a dumb gimmick to sell me on new hardware nowadays.
Custom characters are the only reason I buy WWE games. Just a shame they keep shutting down the online services for last year’s game every year.
I need to go back and finish some of the Personas. I played 3 Portable and 4 Golden about 10 years ago but never got around to finishing 3 (and got the worst ending in 4 despite playing on the easiest difficulty - I’m really not very good at grindy-ass RPGs).
I might just lock myself in for a few days and just power through one of them. It’s probably the only way I’ll ever beat these sorts of games.
Got the PS2 hooked up again recently so I’ve been dabbling in a few different games. A bit of MGS3 this morning (replaying it since Kojima mentioned Lupin the 3rd had inspired some elements of the game, mainly Eva being essentially Fujiko), and some Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (never actually played any of them despite being Australian myself).
Favourite game characters? You’d have to be more specific. I’m terrible at picking favourites from a broad list.
Most anticipated games? Currently, I’m waiting on my PlayDate, so I’m curious to see how that goes when it arrives. Maybe the new Earthworm Jim for the Amico too when/if that ever comes out. I don’t really follow that much of the modern gaming press so I can’t say I’m hyped for much.
The worst of this are the “gesture bars” that iOS and even Android are starting to use on the bottom of their screens for navigation. Just give me buttons that I can understand instead of making me learn what finger movement I’m supposed to use to bring up my running apps or go back.
God I really miss buttons.
