populations increasing in those places also ruins their quaintness, since no one moving into a rural village does so without a car nor can they tolerate even the slightest fucking inconvenience like horses on the road and such.

frankly just relieved they didn’t get turbocancer
…though they might just develop normal cancer, we’ll just have to wait and see

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that radishes are fucking amazing. They contain vitamin C, improve blood pressure, and are full of Sulforaphene, a powerful anti-cancer substance. Radishes contain almost no calories
7·7 days agoalso it’s not like other vegetables have the energy density of plutonium, aside from the starchy stuff most vegetables have precisely the amount of calories that’s good for you.

1·7 days agothis is also why i actually think hard candy that’s basically just solid sugar, is the best kind.
Because you’re sucking on it and the sugar dissolves into your saliva you get a lot of sweetness that lasts a long time, rather than constantly shoveling stuff into your mouth. Now, i have no clue how terrible it is for your teeth to soak your mouth in sugar water for hours on end, but it’s not like that doesn’t happen with other candies, and i’d imagine it’s pretty good to avoid chewing on sugar?

science@lemmy.world•Mediterranean diet can reduce risk of stroke by up to 25%, long-term study suggestsEnglish
7·8 days agoi mean, yeah. It’s a diet that doesn’t involve fast food, and does involve a lot of vegetables.
Good to have the study, but this isn’t really that interesting.

Videos@lemmy.ml•You are being misled about renewable energy technology.
1·8 days agothe big problem with nuclear is just that there’s kinda no real reason for it anymore, renewables are just cheaper and better now.
I guess maybe if you REALLY dedicate yourself to defending it, nuclear plants can make sense from a national security perspective? And it’s something we could spin up if the sun fucking dissapears one day.
But a side from those two things i really can’t see any reason to build more nuclear (bringing back reactors that were decommissioned might make sense, i don’t know) when we could instead spend that effort on just plastering the landscape with wind turbines and solar panels and shove batteries in every apartment building…

Science@beehaw.org•Audiophiles Can't Differentiate Audio Signals Sent Through Copper, Banana, and Mud in Blind Test
2·9 days agoas i’ve come to realize from trying to troubleshoot why my speakers sometimes give me a headache, it turns out none of this makes the slightest fucking difference if people can’t master their audio for shit.
So many youtubers are putting out borderline unlistenable videos, and then i find the one person who doesn’t fuck it up and holy fuck i can actually hear what they’re saying
oh trust me, my head looked like i had dipped it in a bucket of grease for like a month when i stopped using shampoo.
Your body is used to the oil constantly being scoured away, so compensates by spewing it out. Once you stop removing the oil the scalp should eventually recalibrate and you enter the blissful state of your hair just always being nice.
yeah that’s way better than if he had actually put it in a choke-hold, because i’m pretty sure that’s really difficult to do right without hurting people (and, you know, no one trains for doing it on deer…) and even when you do it right i think it’s not very good for the person you do it to.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: The Median Age for FOX, CNN & MSNBC Viewers is Around 70 Years OldEnglish
4·10 days ago“The mean is the number you get by dividing the sum of a set of values by the number of values in the set.
In contrast, the median is the middle number in a set of values when those values are arranged from smallest to largest.
The mode of a set of values is the most frequently repeated value in the set.”
i really hate how people don’t realize it’s the bacteria that grow in sweat which make the bad smell
Like, christ, i haven’t even used soap while showering for several years now, and i really don’t shower often anyways, and yet whenever someone smells my hair they go “oh nice!”. Because i just don’t get a sweaty scalp, so there’s nothing to make it smell bad!
that’s not fair, the meta engineers have done some amazing work on the 2UCK3R83RG model these past few years! It now looks almost like it’s capable of feeling shame for what it has done.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•[image] when good infrastructure design does not just prioritize cars its a plus for everyone.English
1·11 days agoas a swede (and sweden isn’t exactly renowned for our amazing bike infrastructure), this would only barely register as somewhere bikes are allowed to go, and only because of the bike racks.
It needs to be like 50% wider and actually be signed for bicycles, plus the seams in the concrete really imply this isn’t somewhere you’re supposed to use wheeled vehicles.

2·11 days agohonestly i’d go further, and say it’s “now designed”.
What was there previously wasn’t a design, it was the equivalent of leaving all your dirty dishes in the sink and telling yourself you’ll take care of it some day.
maybe people living near popular bike trails should consider that fact before moving in
