My three kids are in their 20’s. Assuming there are no weapons involved, I’d say they’re safe with any of them.

A work colleague is the president of his HOA board. I get to hear about the other side of the conflicts.
I’m only hearing his side, but the things he tells me about make it seem like some of his neighbors are just idiots.
Like people parking in no-parking areas that are supposed to be kept clear for emergency vehicle access. He’s warned people that they can’t park there, and they treat it like he’s being a fascist. He just doesn’t want to hear their bitching when they get towed.
There’s a rule about not being on or near the power transformer. The reason is because people could be injured. However, when he tells someone to keep their kids off it, he’s being a tyrant.
He’s only the president of the HOA board because no one else wants the job. He’s not running around issuing fines because he doesn’t have time for that shit.
People threaten to sue the HOA for bullshit, and he’s baffled. It’s like they think there’s some income stream apart from the fees they pay. If they sue the HOA, they are suing themselves and their neighbors.
I always think about him when I read people complaining about their HOA.
Don’t get me wrong, I would never buy a property in an HOA, but if they do, it’s not like they’re helpless. They can read the rules, organize a resistance, vote the fascists out. They can take charge. They can show everyone how much better their leadership would be.
A bunch of people used this on me.
It started small. “Can I have something to eat?”, “Can you take me to the doctor?”, “Could you change my diaper?”, next thing I know I’m paying college tuition.
Nah, future me is an asshole, let him deal with the consequences.
Come to think of it, past me was an asshole too.
I’ve often thought that the taxes should relate to whether or not the home is occupied.
If you live in it as your primary dwelling, with more than 50% of your time there, then you should pay the normal amount.
If you have someone leasing the house to live in it, then you should pay the same property taxes as if you were living in it yourself. Maybe a bit higher.
If you’re using it as a full time Airbnb, the taxes should be much, much higher.
Unoccupied rental properties or vacation homes should be taxed at the much higher rate to encourage you to either lower the rent or sell it to someone who can live in it.

I dunno. This is a tough one, because guinea pigs are absolutely one of the cutest at birth. Folks expect them to pop out pink and blind, but they come out like tiny little guinea pigs. Already have their hair, almost ready to walk, eat hay, and make jelly beans.
Don’t get me wrong, adult guinea pigs are pretty damn adorable. But the babies are the cutest, right up to about 4 weeks old when the baby boys start screwing their sisters and Mom.
I’m having trouble trying to decide. The only difference I can think of between the babies and the adults is size, and I think being smaller always makes you cuter.
Guinea pig babies are pretty damn adorable, but so are adult guinea pigs. I don’t know how to calculate the difference in cuteness.

Years ago I was playing Urban Terror on my server with my kids and their karate teacher. Me and the kids were at home, their karate teacher was at his home.
It was two teams, kids against the adults, and I was sitting there listening to the kids talking. While they were talking out loud about what they were doing, I was chatting online with their teacher and telling him where to find them. I’d keep them occupied while he snuck up behind them to take them out.
Played the whole night like that.
Nope. The only old phone I’m still impressed by was the old Motorola Razor flip phone. I had a blue one and my wife had a pink one. The number of times that phone rode through the washer and dryer without ever hesitating was amazing.
My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S10. It’s the first smart phone I’ve had that hasn’t started glitching after the first two years. I ordered it on July 29, 2020, and it’s still going strong with no signs of stopping. I’ve never been forced to do so much as factory reset it. Every previous phone I’ve spent the last year or so I had it trying to coax it into lasting just a little longer.
I’ve replaced the factory-installed screen protector and the otter case I bought for this phone once. When I had the phone out of the old case and stripped of the screen protector, it still looked brand new.
I’m not sure if this is a shower thought or just what happens when neurons fire randomly without having actual thoughts.

My wife had it in her optometry practice on 9/11. She had her staff yank it out and stash it in the back office.
