1·2 months agoSo if the customer paid more to cover the cost, why are the businesses entitled to a refund… that will come from the taxpayers?

4·2 months agoAnd then the refunds come from public tax dollars. So the customer has paid the unconstitutional tariffs twice. It’s a blatant transfer of wealth upwards, no other way to really cut it

So you’re saying businesses should now cut deep discounts for buyers, because the (already imported) products’ tariffs have been paid (AND the business is being refunded for it). Are they going to drop prices now? Are they acting upon market pressures or taking advantage/manipulating them?
If you think a wealth-class has to pay any mind to the invisible hand of the free market… I’ve got a nice ass bridge to sell ya, at a tarrif-free + ultra-discounted price!

Most likely mid-back for me. I might glance (depending on the situation), but I’m trying to climb stairs, so my focus is usually on “not tripping”. Staring at someone’s ass the whole way up… a little creeper. Staring at my feet the whole way up… I might fail at climbing stairs. Guess it also depends on our distance/height and where my eye level sits
Flashing your meats by way of cooking naked; it causes their muscle fibers to relax, as they now know you’re not a threat (like showing your “underbelly”). Now you can get a really good sear and lock-in the juices, as you and your meats reach an understanding of mutual vulnerability. You just can’t show any fear though, so no aprons allowed. Trust is essential for tenderness, and vice versa

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"You don't remember me do you?" is one of the most embarrassing things to hear when meeting someone for what you think is the first time.
4·2 months agoIt’s good to mention, because often people will say “I’m really bad at remembering faces too!”, and it has kinda stopped me from mentioning it to anyone who isn’t very close with me already
I was dating a girl once, and she cut her hair short after about a year into our relationship. She came to surprise me at work, and I just stared at her blankly, wondering what this “customer” wanted. Until she said “hello?”, and I immediately recognized her voice
I’ve come to understand that my brain just doesn’t process faces the same, I recognize traits instead (a natural way to cope). I can recognize people from how they walk better than most, but the face by itself doesn’t really trigger any recognition. Hard to explain, but it’s a little more pronounced than just being bad at remembering faces

6·2 months agoI have some prosopagnosia (face blindness), so this happens to me too much. Can cause a lot of social anxiety. And it’s made me look like a huge asshole sometimes when I’ve seen someone I know, outside of the usual context (at a grocery store instead of work). It’s a pain in my ass
The oh-so relatable manosphere /s
People’s are equals; you must deal with your own insecurities and worry about other’s later. We’re more similar than you think, and it’s ok to love thineself
I never rode motorcycles (albeit once around a neighborhood for a few minutes), but I did ride a bmx-style bike for a lotta years, lotta miles. And I just (this year) learned about how countersteering is inevitable, or you fall
Point is — I used to cut my tire hard to the right, at slower speed, so that I could turn back into a very tight left circle. Never thought about it though, it just worked. I used to play with that to see how close I could get to a 180° turn (like pretending I was a circling buzzard or something)… it was fun. Never knew how cool the underlying physics were
Fast-forward to that one time I was on a motorcycle… I dropped it on it’s side by the second lap of the cul-de-sac (at very low speed). Dunno what happened, but I do remeber cutting around a circle, and being amazed at how far you could lean into a circle at such a slow speed… as if you’re riding the side-wall of the tires. And then I pulled out of the turn and lost balance, slowly dropping it on it’s side
It was so freaking cool to me. But also… man, I couldn’t control the bike with my hips(?) the way I could with a bicycle. It didn’t exactly translate, cause the bike just had more power and weight. Or possibly because the power control was from my hand and not my feet?
On my bike, I used to be able to stand straight up on my pedals (off my seat) without touching the handlebars, and just cruise by steering with my legs/hips… pretty much all leaning for steering. I would stand up straight hands-free, smoking a cig, and steering with my lower body; just cruising lol (I know, I was super cool man). But it was fun. Always to cruise on a motorcycle, but fuck me, I just don’t trust myself to not be dumb
C’est la vie
A friend of mine went out of town and I helped take care of their cats. I realized when I went to feed them, that I didn’t know where their food was. I was about to call my friend, but then realized I could just ask the cats. And sure enough, one of them led me directly to the closet with the food. Easy peasey
My wife trained our cat to sit on a chair, right outside the kitchen area. Cause sometimes she just wants to hang out when my wife is cooking, so that’s where she’s allowed to watch from. Nobody wants a cat under your feet when you’re boiling something
Lmao, well damn I’m sorry again! That makes more sense, I misinterpreted cause I is a little dumb. I’ll have to check it out because I am in fact, into those kinda things! Thank you
Sorry, sorry… that was sarcasm. It was mostly slavery of orphans, guised as trade-skills. As well as the cancers, they also had hellish injury/death, because ya know… 7 year olds are climbing chimneys
“Put their feet to the fire”… sometimes kids were too afraid to keep climbing, so they lit a fire under them. Sometimes, they became too grown and got stuck in the chimney, possibly dying. Hellish
And the “orphan train” already passed by, so it’s not pictured either. Or the “for sale” signs when the children became too many. But the chimney sweep kids are “living it up”, as they’re learning an important trade!
