My armchair points:

1. It was the first socialist state in history, first attempts at anything are rarely successful.

2. The USSR had to inherit the absolute mess the Russian Empire left over with a lot of anti-Russian sentiment left over in the peripheral republics. Over time their Anti-Russianism morphed into anti-communism.

3. WW2 killed much of the ideologically disciplined vanguard and forced the USSR to lower the standards of who was recruited in.

4. Western propaganda and sabotage. An obvious point but a point nonetheless. The US dwarfed the USSR’s soft power influence with USSR having little to compete with the likes of Hollywood and whatnot.

5. Economically competing with rest of the world while isolated and alone is an extremely tall task no matter the merits of your education and workforce.

When I played the Final Fantasy X remaster some time ago it honestly felt strange to play a “complete” out of the box game again. I got reminded of how it felt to actually organically discover secrets and challenge content.

Finally got around to playing Devil May Cry 5. Been developing more of a taste for hack and slash games recently.

1. I only played a few nintendo games which were way back in the day. It’d give my favorite Nintendo game to Yoshi’s Island, seeing that scene with Big Baby Bowser certainly made a memorable impression on 4-5 year old me.

2. Never played much Xbox, I was a playstation loyalist for the most part until I started playing on PC. My favorite Sony published that I can think of were Twisted Metal Black, Resistance: Fall of Man, and The Last of Us 1.

3. Hmmm that’s a lot to choose from, Honkai Impact first off as my pfp would suggest, the part where Mei has to “join the darkside” by becoming a Herrscher and part ways with the main protagonist Kiana was some good emotional shit. Metal Gear Solid 1-4 + Peace Walker and Revengeance are all god tier which I’m sure everyone here would agree, didn’t care much for 5 myself personally though. Lately I’ve been playing this VN called Steins Gate which is absolutely deep and thought provoking, the only downside is that it gets lib at a couple of specific points but luckily it’s nothing too over-arching to the story.

Hmmm the ones I’ve used don’t give any bullshit about bagging area. Guess I’ll be thankful.

My only issue with self-checkouts is how awkward and a pain in the ass it is when you got a lot of stuff in your cart.

Not alone about there about Elden Ring, played Soulsbornes games since Demons Souls on PS3 and Elden Ring is the only one I didn’t even care to finish. To me it it felt like a tedious slog to find things like ball bearings and Estus upgrades which you need to keep going to the wiki to find unless you want to wander pointlessly for hours finding stuff you will never use. PvP meanwhile is the most boring and stale it’s ever been with invasions being completely dead and people just using poke attacks on things like Heavy Rapiers and Dual Lances all the time in duals. The beautiful art design and it just being a AAA game in 2022 that’s genuine and not made by a team of psychologist hired to make a game as predatory as possible is really all that carries the game.
