MultiCommunities are here!

MultiCommunities are groupings of communities that can span multiple instances. They can be used to make custom views when you are only interested in a specific subset of communities but not the overall Local/Frontpage/All feed.

All of the existing Community Settings should also apply to MultiCommunities such as View Type, Sort, Mark as Read, and so on.

If you’d like to try it out please make sure you’re updated to version 239 or above. Please let me know what you think and if there are any features you’d like to see added!

Sharing

All MultiCommunities are fully shareable. Here’s the share link to my meme MultiCommunity above (this will only work on version >240): Multicommunity: memes . The format is essentially connect-multi://[multi name]/[community name @ instance]+....

Adding Communities

The overflow options now includes an ‘Add to Multi’ option. The community banner also has a plus button which will add the Community to a MultiCommunity. If that community already is added instead a minus option will appear here for removing that community.

Don’t have Connect Installed? You can find it on Google Play here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kuroneko.lemmy_connect

Cheers!

The multi-community share link doesn’t do anything for me? Ditto, tapping on the link in my browser. I’m on v239.

EDIT: An option to delete a MultiCommunity needs to be added.

Also, having the add MultiCommunity from the subscription section of the main menu would be nice. Another place is the community about page and maybe the community overflow menu(the upper one, after you tap on a post).

EDIT2: So you can delete a MultiCommunity by removing all of its linked communities but this may not be intuitive and having a delete option in the MultiCommunity overflow menu would be useful.

Also, I was trying to find the minus button you mentioned and it didn’t click to me that I had to go back into the “Add multi” selection again. Maybe it could be renamed to MultiCommunity or something, since you’re not always going in there to add.

EDIT3: If you set a MultiCommunity as the default, it doesn’t show the (D).

I’ll take a look at what might be going on with the share link.

Incoming beta version that adds some additional actions to the Main Menu. There should also be a minus button on the MultiCommunity itself at the top next to the Info and Share buttons which will remove it.

      Thanks for the feedback! Cheers!

I rolled out v240 last night which adds some of those additional menu items.

Also Sharing hopefully is working now (before the ids were included in the share link but now the client resolves them since ids change between instances). E.g. Multicommunity: memes
