How can we ever hope to tix this? On top of all the other shitty things going on in the world, this is the thing that really removes all hope for humanity (and life on this planet) from my mind. Like a crushing fuck you to all organic life, it just makes me want to completely drop out of society. Who the fuck can stand working 40 hours a week for some shitty company if they know they’re inhaling plastic dust wherever they go?

Meanwhile they’re making more single use plastics than ever. No real push to replace it with something biodegradable by any world power. Its not even like that would fix the problem, just barely slowing new accumulation of microplastics but that will never be enough to save us.

I talk about this to people and they either call me a cynical asshole for making then feel bad, or they just don’t care. No wonder the billionaires are building rockets.

      My sentiments exactly!

I fear all we can really do is try to educate people and hope they change their ways. Unfortunately this is not realistic from what I have seen. I talked about it constantly and I’ve had absolutely zero success.

Now many of my family members start to buy or use something plastic when a perfectly good alternative is available to them. They look over at me and say ‘I hope this doesn’t make you mad…’

They are literally more concerned with what I think rather than the seemingly unavoidable outcome of their plastic addiction.

Same here. I keep telling everyone it’s not about me personally, but about the issues I’m concerned about. There’s still hope though, giving up is not an option

Sesame seeds are huge! No way plastic that big can float in the air. Maybe they meant poppy seeds? Still too big to float though.

You dont inhale pieces that size you inhale microplastic over time and it builds up clumps inside your lungs.

“No bigger than sesame seeds.” So the tail end of the distribution does not reach the size of a sesame seed. Still spooky.

This might be a dumb question but why now? Plastics are a 19th century invention shouldn’t we have been seeing these for a while?

There’s been an explosion in use of plastics since the 20h century resulting in stupendous amounts of plastic waste. It also takes time for plastics to get ground up into tiny particles that permeate the environment now.
