There are only two options:
Bolsonaro | Communism
Honesty  | Stealing (corruption, perhaps?)
Progress  | Backwardness
Freedom  | Slavery
Wealth   | Hunger

God, Fatherland and Family.
It’s your choice

Meanwhile, the people are poor and hungry. More than half of our population (~100 million) face food insecurity, and more than 19 million are in hunger. The people are in extreme debt, facing evictions, unemployment and poverty, which fuels crime.

There are criminal factions growing stronger, which are in practice capitalist enterprises employing terrorism with their own mercenaries, and they are supported by large international private banks. There are millions in sub-employment under large corporations which exploits their workers like slaves, kids as young as 14 years old are working traveling full kilometers in a bicycle carrying food for a middle class consumer who ordered something on an app, in return of 5 reais per kilometer, which can’t even pay a full meal.

Meanwhile the Congress are trying more and more to pass bills which would “flexibilize” the contract between employers and employees, in essence, trying their best to legalize this slavery

That’s it – Corruption, backwardness, slavery and hunger. So, following the “reasoning” of this propaganda piece, Brazil is definitely a communist country

Population cannot hold any fire arms (ironically or not, the one president who wanted to change this was Bolsonaro).

Army and drug cartels are the only ones who have weapons in this country.

An AK goes by x60 minimum wages. So not really an option… Legally people can have pistols, but it’s also expensive (not as much as a rifle in the black market) and burocratic process. Also given the christian background of brazilian people, weapons are still seen as somewhat abominable.

You know you probably should heavily reconsider your life choices if the candidate you are voting for literally uses a motto that the Portuguese New State used. XD

        Deus, Pátria, Família

On the poster it’s slightly changed (just an extra “and”).

In Brazil it seems to be known from a different historic context:

          Oh, the green chickens 😂

It’s the name the Brazilian Left has used to describe the Integralists until they became obsolete. They tried to organize a public event in 1934, but antifascists organized to stop the event from happening. The antifascist action was victorious and the Integralist were described in leftist periodicals to “run like chickens” after they were severely beaten, hence the affectionate name we give to them.

The Vargas government was then pressured to attend to the growing antifascist sentiment and treat the Integralists as a threat to civil safety and prevent their organization.

If the communists in Brazil are notable enough to be getting directly slandered like this, then that means they’re a real threat! Unless Bolsonoro means “communist” in the liberal sense.

This is just recycled cold war BS. The spectre of communism never left the far right wing, who uses it to gain popularity.

Unfortunately, any form of revolutionary left was pretty much wiped out in our military dictatorship.

Only in this election (of all times) the communist party is running candidates for president, governors and legislative. A historical moment for the country, if you ask me, but some are criticizing, because it can steal some votes from Lula and thus favoring Bolsonaro reelection.

The same argument gets thrown around every single election here in the US and it never makes any sense. If no one votes for small parties, then those parties will stay small forever. It’s such short-sighted thinking.

Agree, pt is not the only leftist party, i agree that we should vote on the most important members of PT, like Lula and Haddad, for the sake of unity, but the communist party deserves to have at least some participation.

        • Elections here, bad as they are, are still not comparable to the shitshow in the US.

We don’t have two parties and a rest made of insignificants, we actually have only one that consistently runs for (presidential) second turn - Worker’s Party. PDT, PSDB, PSOL, PV, PCdoB, those have considerable power in certain states.

To give an idea, mrBolsonaro’s party wasn’t one that usually got much light, it was essentially a “rented” one. He needed a party to accept him, he won, and later formally left the party.

You are right that the Brazilian fascist corporate-military dictatorship of 1964–1985 wiped out many of our intellectuals, leaders and militants. It was a massive loss to the communist movement in Brazil. But to say “any form of revolutionary left was wiped out” is a underestimation of the currently existing revolutionary organizations of Brazil, especially PCR and PCB

It’s not even fair to compare what PCB was to what was left of it after the dictatorship.

That is why I said on my next paragraph the historical importance of PCB running the presidential elections.

Anti-imperialist? Lula was very close to the United States, even promoting military and police cooperation. It was also during Lula’s period that banks enriched themselves while the poor received crumbles of social programs. Yes, there were positive policies, but positive in the sense that a turd is more positive than diarrhea, in comparison to past governments of FHC and Collor.

Yes he was. I’m not saying there wasn’t a single positive aspect of the Lula government, there certainly were many positive things we can learn from that experience. But we should call Lula’s government what it was: a bourgeois government under bourgeois institutions preserving the bourgeois order. For instance, the reason Lula was close to BRICS was because of the dependency of the agribusiness to these countries. He was a big BRICS partner because of the business interests of the rural bourgeoisie.

This is also the reason Brazil is neutral in the Russian-Ukrainian war, even though we are under a bourgeois dictatorship with fascist characteristics, because Brazil depends on Russian fertilizers and the Chinese market to export soybeans to. It doesn’t mean that Lula and Bolsonaro are “big pro BRICS” politicians, it only means they are following the interests of the bourgeoisie.

We can say Bolsonaro is simply a matter of form, but the content of Lula and Bolsonaro’s government remain much the same, the only difference is that social programs were cut and investment in important sectors of the economy were halted after the coup against Dilma Rousseff. Actually, in many aspects, Dilma Rousseff was a much less subservient politican than Lula, and was a very honorable stateswoman, hence why she was couped.

This shit has been tried in nearly every recent alt-right campaign in Latin America and it never sticks.

IMO it’s because different countries have their own derogatory terms to refer to leftists and as far as I’m aware using “communist” as a slanderous word in mainstream politics is only practiced in the US nowadays. So it comes across as very out of touch and bizarre when used in a Latin American context. It’s a sign of a campaign which has sourced its ad strategy to clueless foreigners and which is doomed to fail.
