Reddit quarantined (and might soon ban) the most active communist subreddit, and one of the very few non-western-supremacist ones left.
We’ve gotten dozens of new applications, and are approving them as quickly as we can.

As a former r/CTH poster and hexbear head, welcome to the club! 🍻 Having the rug pulled like this is truly chaotic, but it’s good news that y’all already have a backup ready and don’t have to do a month long hackathon while putting out constant fires in a 10,000 member Discord lifeboat. While the new website is nowhere near as busy as the former subreddit, the independence of having our own infrastructure developed and maintained by trusted comrades is worth it. At the end of the day, Reddit set us free.

As one of the older GenZedong users (I honestly thought it meant “General” Zedong like some kind of militant movement, sorry for crashing your kiddie table) I remember when we all had to gather on niche forums or Usenet or gasp! email discussion lists. Modern social media is convenient, having everything in one place, but that also makes us very vulnerable when those who own the commons decide to crack down.
The corporate coup d’etat is complete and no longer even hidden. It will take some effort, but we can still be together in comradeship and good intention. Let us look at it as opportunity, rather than setback.
This. The fact that we had been able to stay on a fed-controlled centralized platform for so long is a miracle, but what this shows now is that we’ve become relevant enough to be dangerous.
Yep, we can’t forget that principled communists will always be at the forefront of science and tech fields. Reddit and silicon valley might be a profit-making machine for now, but they can’t beat us in the long run… history and humanity are on our side.

Yeah, quarantine is literally part of the toolbox for sanctioning certain types of attention for a given subreddit. They take that “attention is currency” stuff real seriously. Simulate a market by lending moderators attention from your users. Those simulations automate the process of creating and maintaining influencers and “communities”, which ideally maximizes the amount of attention you continue to engage with and give them. They’re rigging a market they control and if it starts to go bad for them they just cut you off.
Just FYI, we have anecdotal reports from people on Hexbear that Twitter and Facebook have also been wiping out and censoring leftist accounts/pages since yesterday. This is how it happens. They come in waves and seem to like getting it done in one big batch

My account got an 3 day ban yesterday from reddit itself, i cant even comment or upvote or do anything at all on the sub, of all the moments they could have banned me, they decide to do it on r/GenZedong last moments. My disapointment is imesuarable, and my day is ruined :(

I got banned for 7 days since yesterday last week it was banned Permanently then I weirdly got my account back lol I made the account in 2015 when I was in HS
