Great, replace one crazy dictator with another one… leave it to Ursula to come up with the best possible deals. I am sure her Goldman and Sachs buddies already secured it /s

Thats the simple problem. Most of the countries which have what we need are run by assholes.

I wonder why that is so? Are we the baddies? (Obvious meme reference /s)

Even if you generate all your electricity from renewables, you still need natural gas for non-electricity uses like fertilizer or chemical manufacturing.

Maybe because a high amount of people are heating their flats using gas and it is not possible to change that short term.

Sure, but it is not like this situation/discussion is new or surprising. You sleep in the bed you make yourself.

Because there is no alternative (except freezing). Renewables wont do much in cold, windless winter nights.

Well, except that there are plenty of sources of renewable energy that neither depend on wind or the sun. And a well isolated home needs only minimal heating anyways.

Its a mix from various sources and energy saving efforts. Its not like natural gas is providing the entire energy needs of Europe either.

Sure, but creating the infrastructure to tap into these energy sources takes a long term commitment, and a lot of energy. Europe is clearly isn’t capable of committing to such a project, and now it lacks the energy needed to do so.

This entitled attitude is at the root of Europe’s issues. No other society is obligated to give the West any oil or gas. Maybe it’s a good idea to treat trade partners with respect?(especially if they deliver essential resources)

It’s not just the Greens anymore, their anti-science propaganda is so deep that most Germans believe it, or at least blindly accept it.

Plus a high cost of building/removing/maintaining. And a dependency on third party states (again). And inhumane working conditions in the uranium mines. And radioactive waste.
